Aroma: grain, bread. Appearance: clear gold, medium, frothy, white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: bitters intensify, getting quite strong, some malts remain in the background. Overall: boring Pale Lager, but does its job in the hot Vietnamese weather. Bottle from random corner shop, HCMC.

Had this in HCMC in cans and also in cay tre restaurant in Soho. Pours quite bright clear yellow with white head. Aroma is slightly metallic. When I had this in the UK, I thought it wasn’t good at all. Its a little better in the heat of Vietnam.

Goutée au Vietnam. Nez un peu houblonné, arome et fin de bouche legerement houblonés. Pas trop mal pour une bière vietnamienne.

Can 33cl kindly given by Calisky. A clear yellow beer, nose is on nut and peppery hops. Aroma is low, just nut, burnt nut, dry feeling, peppery and bitter hops. Even better than others Vietnamese lager, still not outstanding, maybe nice fresh there.

Bottle pours clear lightly hazed golden straw with decent off white head and good lace. Euro Noble hop aromas light graininess and lightly sweet malt. Light body, zesty carbonation good hop character lingering through. Finishes a touch unclean. Grassy hop character lingering through with a muddy grainy malt character

This is Saigon Beer’s attempt at a Premium beer, and it is much smoother, and with the extra alcohol there is more substance to their bland ingredients.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2012 Bottle by the pool in Hoi An. Light yellow with a small white head. Aroma of malt and grain with a hint of caramel and cooked vegetables. Sweet and lightly malty. Quite standard South-East Asian pale lager, but a bit more body and taste. Goes down easy in the heat. Hint of bitterness in the finish.

A small touch of decency in a world of bad Vietnamese lagers. Better than all the other Saigon named brews, this one has a tang to it at least - one that’s not all bad. In a bottle in Saigon.

Bottle. High creamy lasting white head. Clear golden body. Malty weak and too sweet aroma and flavor. Little hops bitterness. Low carbonation. Short aftertaste. Boring.
