COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Australia holds a special place in our hearts here at Karl Strauss Brewing Company. After all, while on a trip through Australia it was the Sail & Anchor Hotel that provided the inspiration to start a brewery in San Diego. (...) Medium body with well balanced malt and hop characteristics. Pours a bright red hue in the glass, with lingering hoppy, grapefruit and tangerine aromas.

Bottle - pours ruby with a tight tan head. Lots of flowery citrus, nettle and peach on the aroma. Moderate bitterness followed by a big dry hit at the end. Nice creamy palte. Good drop.

640mL BB 06/02/2015 Pours a very attractive red copper body, good clarity with a dense off-white head hanging around. Not a lot on the nose; biscuity, nutty malts, some resiny & grapefruit hop notes in there. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation, certainly doesn’t feel 6% Markedly more hoppy on the palate; plenty of citrus rind, caramels, nuts, toastiness, with a good bitterness with lingering woody hop spice. Quite nice!

Bottle. Clear, deep amber/mahogany with thick, frothy cream head and heavy lacing. Citrus and floral hop aromas with a malt background. Big grapefruit and orange hop flavours, with a smooth, roasted malt mud palate and long, medium bitter finish. Nice beer. Very bitter for an amber ale. Indian red ale?

Resplendent deep amber with a thick but dissipating buttermilk-white head. No huge hops on the nose. Strong and satisfying malt backbone of sweet caramels, light toffee, burnt brown toast, balanced by a subtle hop spiciness. Somewhere in between the citrus and spice of an american hop schedule and softer smoother fuggles or something British. Thick silky mouthfeel. Seems more of an amber than red ale to me but has personality and complexity. Highly recommend.

(Bottle) Clear deep reddish amber with decent tight off-white head. Nice aroma, mainly citrus with slight hints of pine and biscuit. Medium body with good carbonation. Great taste, than transforms significantly sweet toffee start to a nice bitter finish. The start has a fair amount of complexity with citrus, candy and cough medicine notes. This mellows nicely and then a good hoppy bitterness steadily grows for a nice sustained bitter finish. Generally I am not a fan of this style of beer, but was pleasantly surprised by this.

Shark_Pants (184) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 24, 2014
Pours ruby red into a tulip glass with a 1.5 finger head that quickly retracts to a soapy film. Aromas of sweet biscuit, vanilla and tangerine. Taste is sweetened grapefruit, biscuity malts and finishes with a dryness and bitterness. Medium bodied. Certainly not bad at all but doesn’t reach the standard of their Jack Tar imperial stout.

From a bottle. Pours a clear red/brown, off white head, balanced hop and malt aroma, typical red ale flavours. A very good beer.

640ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s 190614. Good solid red in colour. Almost like a scotch ale. Big full mouthfeel.

Bottle. Very malt driven with toffee biscuit, mild herbal notes and old orange. Needs a bit more hop to it as it finishes a little stale
