You needed more than nine lives to hoist beer crates of the drayman’s cart at Fremanlte port. In fact loading ships was lethal but the wild lifts were tamed with a Cat’s Shank knot. Unlike the original our Cat’s Shank slips down all too easily. But here is the twist. Thanks to the quality Pilsner and Vienna style malts we use our Köln inspired ale tastes light and refreshing like a lager. So it’s the ideal drink to get your claws around on a sunny day!

Pale yellow pour, very thin head which quickly vanishes. Light aroma, stone fruit (peach), pear. Very little going on flavour wise, with very mild fruit and malt. Not great

Bottle- Pours a clear pale golden color with a small head that fades to nomial lacing.. Aroma is fairly mild with some citrus, some grain and a bit of malt sweetness. Taste is fairly bland with a bit of citrus and a bit of malt sweetness. Mild bitterness and a fairly clean finish. Light body, smooth, quite bland and a bit sticky. Drinkable, but a pretty basic Kolsch. probably best on a hot summer day.

Pastel yellow in colour with reasonable clarity. Head is a wafer of white that holds on until the last. Lemon rind, persimmon flesh, apple vinegar, dusty grains and a very feint herbal hop note makes up the subtle aroma. Foamy, mildly soapy in mouthfeel with a slickness to the finish. Plastic comes to mind when tasting it, a little manky and oxidised are the hops with a hint of boiled greens late. Light malt and fruit esters to save it giving it a gentle sweetness. Not the best to be brutally honest! (33cL, BB 12/04/13, BWS Quinns Rocks)
