ALLOVATE (2356) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - OCT 18, 2013
UPDATED: OCT 20, 2013 A hint of burnt toast and fresh mown grass mars slightly amidst a tingle of overly ripe tropical fruit and pinewood on the nose. Looks good even with chill haze evident. Big, rocky white crown held proud atop a deep amber body. Rough, tannic malt, light smoke, peanut husks, butter, all predominant on the palate. Fruit, either esters or hop contributed are muddled and lost. Lightly bitter - hoped for more. Not much length and dry. Tangy, puckering sweet/sour malt profile builds as it warms. Next!? From a 640ml bottle on 9/12/2013. Pours a clearish dark golden with a small head. Features a light fruity aroma which is very subdued by IPA standards. Flavour wise, the story is the same. Nothing objectionable but nothing particularly interesting. There’s a bit of nutty malt, a fair bit of sweet citrus and tropical fruit, and a medium, slightly lingering hop bitterness. Has a medium to full body and average carbonation. Easy enough to quaff but a bit forgettable.

BB 24/08/2014. Poured a slightly translucent golden amber with a one- to two-finger white foamy head that retained OK and laced with clingy spots. High carbonation with medium to large bubbles. Aroma of citrus hops. Taste initially of fairly sweet caramel followed by slight grapefruit and a good hops tanginess. Taste, while strong, is not as intense as the aroma led me to expect. Medium body. Slightly bitter finish. A good example of an IPA that went down well.

Pour is hazy amber with thin white head. Aroma is a nice grapefruit with caramel notes coming though. Flavour is a good dose of caramel malt upfront, quite clean with a good moderate bitter finish.
