COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fremantle brewing maestros, Sail & Anchor, have released a limited edition Imperial Stout just in time for the cooler months - the perfect winter warmer. The Stout itself is characterised by a strong malt character and a deep, palate covering caramel sweetness which plays ever brilliantly well with the hop bitterness which come in at 60 IBUs. Notes of espresso coffee and dark chocolate finish off this dark and refreshing Imperial Stout that is a perfect match for a dark chocolate dessert or an open fire.

oh boy I am a sucker for an Imperial Stout. Licorice, chocolate, cocoa and a hint of cherry on the nose. Palate has all the same flavours and a hint of oiliness and alcohol heat on the end. Good bitterness at the end and a long slightly drying finish.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 640ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Pours dark, dark brown with small ruby highlights. Aromas of dark chocolate, black coffee, Vegemite, brown sugar. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, black instant coffee, with a light caramel sweetness. Medium-bodied. Enjoyable and solid RIS but needs a more complex coffee flavour & a bit fuller & creamier body to elevate it to world class status. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. It might look like tar but it tastes a whole lot better. Thick black colour in the glass with a full thick mouthfeel.

A really nice full imperi stout. Pitch black off white head. Flavour of chocolate mocha and superb roast malts. Smooth

Little surprised with this one, wasn’t expecting much at all. Alcohol hidden well, coffee, chocolate, some liquorice with lingering bitterness. Lacked the smoothness and the robust flavours of a very good RIS but still not a bad brew.
