2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Maris (772) - Canberra, - NOV 17, 2012From a 330ml bottle on 18/11/2012. Pours a clear golden with a small head that disappears quickly. Has very little nose, with just some very slight mineral and grain notes. The flavour is a little better but still quite uninspiring with a hint of sweet citrus and a very mild bitterness. Pretty bland stuff (go the Monkey’s Fist Pale Ale in this series, which is much better).

Fairly non-offensive Golden ale. Not a lot of hop character there, a little bit of stone fruit. Palate has some light crystal malt flavours but is clean and easy drinking.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Stew41 (1580) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - JAN 24, 2013
Not too much to get excited about here. More pale lager than golden ale but to be fair there’s sufficient (just!) fruity honey notes coming through. I can only imagine this beer was conceived post Woolies acquisition?

Poured a clear amber colour with a thin off-white bubbly head that diminished quickly to a thin bubble line and didn’t lace. Moderate carbonation. Aroma of sweet malts. Taste of slightly sweet malt followed by a very mild bitterness. Light body with watery mouthfeel. Average at best.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Davros (1515) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 19, 2012
Pours crystal clear amber with a quickly fading head.
Pretty macro-like aroma of cooked vegetables, grainy malt and some faint spicy hops. There’s some caramel but that’s it.
Pretty similar flavours. A bit bland but there is some caramel and clean malt later.
Watery body. Too much carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2012 345ml bottle from DM’s. Dark golden pour with a small white head. Nose is honey sweet malts with a trace of fruity citrus.. Taste is sweet golden malts with hardly any hop bitterness at the end. Light-medium bodied with a slightly sticky texture. A decent lawnmower beer, although a little too sweet for my palate.

Bottle. Not much going on here. Pretty easy to drink. Really simple beer. Good for a session but yeah nothing fantastic.

330ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Big thick head of rocky foam atop a bright honey amber beer. There is some sweet honey aroma which is pleasing. The flavour is okay without being too out there. A good easy drinking session beer.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Brenhophead (392) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 2, 2012
330mL bottle. Pour a light clear golden hue with next to no head and a light tangy aroma. Has a very light sweet citrus taste but not much more to it. If you want a good golden ale try boneyards golden ale.
