Commercial Description:
Bottled, filtered;
Dark lagers were the norm until the late 19th centruy and they still exist today in Franconia, north of Munich. We have recreated this ancient lager using toasted Munich barley malt, then slow matured it for up to six weeks to develop rich toffee caramel flavours.

This copper beer has a toasty aroma and a complex flavour of fruit and roasted malt with some smokiness with a bit of a boozy kick in the finish. This is my first Dunkel style beer and I was rather impressed.

Bottle. A dark copper colour with a large off white head. plenty of malt in the nose. The taste is very malty, with a hint of coffee and caramel. The beer has a malty bitter finish.

Roasted coffee and nutty aroma. Pours with a very dark brown hue and off white head. Roasted coffee, toffee and nutty flavour with some faint woody notes. Very malty finish. Good stuff.

Bottle. Clear, copper pour, leaving an off-white to beige head. Roasted nose with some fruits and caramel. Roasted, caramel flavor with a fruityness to balance it. Medium body. A quite nice one, yet not "up there". (071005)
