This traditional IPA has fresh aromas of white flowers and citrus with a clean bitter hop flavour. This classic India Pale Ale is made in Burton upon Trent, the home of British brewing. The recipe uses Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade hops and yeast from the Burton Union System, only used by the Marston’s Brewery in Burton. The famous Burton water is also used in the brewing process which helps give this ale its distinct flavour.

For a generic store brand beer this IPA has all the qualities that one should. With a smooth and fruity flavor and bitter palate. It appears light brown with a small head and has a nice smooth aroma to boot!

AshtonMcCobb (5036) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 26, 2016
Bottle from global retailer. Appearance - bright copper with a nice fluffy head. Nose - dirty yeast and sulphur note. Light toffee breaking through. Taste - toffee and biscuits. Palate - light to medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a dry astringent finish. Overall - can’t say this is a great example of the style. More like a badly executed bitter.

500ml bottle. It is malty, it is bitter, but smells a little strange and there is an unpleasant metallic taste to the bitter finish.

PINT tasting. Clear orange/yellow, small foam ring remaining. Little sulfur in aroma, starts of bitter, but fades away quickly. (Arnhem 201512)

500ml Bottle from Sainsbury’s, New Mills, Derbyshire. An IPA is the old fashioned, moderately-hopped sense and all the weaker for it. Bland, watery and with a strange metallic finish. There’s a reason Marstons don’t have their name prominently on it.

14.5.2015. Drank from bottle. Malts, light caramel, grain, fruits. A bit light, metallic and dull. Not really an IPA.

Bottle at home shared with Sarah. Orange / light amber coloured pour with a big fading loose off white head. Aroma is nutty malts, mineral, caramel, berry / grassy hop. Flavour is composed of light caramel, little diacetyl, rough grassy hop matter, sweet grains. A bit stale and some brown sugars. Palate is sweet, moderate carbonation. Dull beer.

The usual Marston's sulphur nose (the label says: "floral and citrus aromas" - eh, no....) That pong aside, it's clean and sharp and a very enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
