COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available in filtered 500ml bottles at Sainsburys supermarkets as part of their Taste The Difference range.
A rich, dark beer packed with intense flavours of chocolate and spicy liquorice. This style of beer was very popular in London during the 18th century and can trace its roots back to 1720. It is brewed with charred malt and English hops to give a truly unique flavour. This is Shepherd Neame’s delicious interpretation of this classic beer.

Quite effervescent for the style. Good mix of malt/hops. Thin tan head. Quite fizzy on the tongue.

Clear black, light tan head, fading. Mostly roasted malts and coffee this one. Rather watery. Miss the chocolate, so I will just eat that with the beer.

500ml bottle from sainsburys. I was going to buy this, until I saw it was brewed by Shepherd Neame, and I’m pleased I did. This is a very good London Porter.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Pours a nice black with minimal tan head. Smell is roasted malt with a vegetable like quality, bits of coffee coming through too. The taste is roasted malt mainly, with notes of dark chocolate and coffee coming through mildly with a slight dry fruit. This leads on to a nice dry finish. Nothing amazing but certainly drinkable!

Black colour, off white head. Aroma - quite sweet, milk chocolate, raisin, hint of coffee, some plum and red fruit. Taste - less going on than with the aroma. Chocolate and coffee notes, slight liquorice, touch of vanilla. Bitterness is short, medium carbonation. Acceptable enough stuff.

Clear 500ml Bottle: BBD May 14, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard during Nov 13 and shared with no one. Pours a pleasant black shade, with a full foaming blanket of tanned bubbles. The smell was over roasted malts, which gave coffee and dark chocolate notes and a hint of what was to come taste wise. Sure enough, malted chocolate and coffee feel to the flavour, slight bitter finish to each sip, but the hops kept a low profile throughout. A long way from sweet, but it wasn’t sour either, just a regular Porter, if a little thin in body depth.

Bottle at home from Sainsburys. Clear bottle. Aroma is socks, some skunky veg hops, choc and roast. Dark Caramel / red pour with a thin beige head. Flavour is a bit stale, solid roast. Slight rusty penny in the finish. Palate is light but a nice dry finish.

Pours near black with a lasting thin beige head, cocoa, roast malt and a little roast coffee on the nose. Creamy-dry body with more dry plain chocolate, notes of dark dried fruit, some juicy malt and a little liquorice. Light appley sweetness in the midbody, finishing with dry burnt bitterness and a returning coffee note. Very nice!

Bottle from the Supermarket. Pours rather dark, but thin. Little head, coffee cream. Aroma of coffee, chicory, chocolate, molasses, dark fruit - but not intense. Taste is weak cold. Much nicer tipid. Bitter chocolate, sour fruit. Slight liquorice taste (as stated on bottle) nothing to write home about.

Bottle from Sainsburys :-) Poured a deep mahogany with a broken tan head. The aroma is earthy peat leading to a medium bitter flavour with roasted malts and a little chocolate on the watery, but refreshing palate. Drinkable at any time of the year.
