At first I was skeptical, as this is a private label beer. It was surprisingly good. Rich, malty, balanced, and available. This last comment may be a surprise to those that think finding a porter in the uk would be like finding bourbon in Kentucky. It isn’t. Apparently stouts and porters in the uk are a winter drink, and most of the young drinkers have moved on to the lighter ales and lagers. The only stout that I can easily find is Guinness. Weird.

Bottle. Cocoa nose, minerals, light coffee. Nice cocoa flavor with coffee, minerals, burnt wood. Rather thin and light, but roasty and bitter. Nice enough stuff, though a bit light and watery for me.

Bottle. Almost black beer with small head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate, liquorice and dark fruits. Light body a little too much carbonation though. A decent enough porter.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Röstiger Antrunk mit trockenen, leicht schokoladigen Noten. Die Röstnoten bleiben mild, aufkommende Bitternoten sind ab dem Mittelteil im Vordergrund, was sich auch nicht mehr ändert. Durchaus in Ordnung. 11/9/8/8/9/8

500ml bottle. ar: Blackcurrant. ap: dark brown, thick head, dissipating. ta: medium-sweet, medium bitterness. pa: medium body, creamy texture, carbonation lively, liquorice finish. Overall: Effervescent in mouth, tends to mask flavour. Might be worth leaving 10 minutes in glass.

I have a head cold but I’m picking something up here...not papaya, don’t think it’s guava, more like chocolate, hint of Belgian truffle. And I’m blindfolded as I taste the beer and type this review.
