COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available in filtered 500ml bottles at Sainsburys supermarkets as part of their Taste The Difference range.
A rich, dark beer packed with intense flavours of chocolate and spicy liquorice. This style of beer was very popular in London during the 18th century and can trace its roots back to 1720. It is brewed with charred malt and English hops to give a truly unique flavour. This is Shepherd Neame’s delicious interpretation of this classic beer.

With a mild aroma and a dark crisp appearance, this portor looks the part but has a bitter tongue and a light palate. For the price its quite a nice porter.

Hilly cream-colored head over opaque dark reddish black. Minimal aroma of malt and molasses. Chocolate and coffee laced with a bit of thin red berry juice. Medium body, appropriate for a porter.

Black colour and amber head. Strong aroma of roasted malts. The taste is of coffee and liquorice with a good level of bitterness to balance the sweetness of the roasted malts. Nice long finish. A little watery - I would have liked a more mouth-filling quality. A well-made porter, but not as good as some examples.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Salford. Despite the clear glass bottle (and spending a year in the personal beer cellar), the taste and texture does not seem to have been compromised and this is a punchy porter with a milky roasted malt nose and a slightly grittier than this taste. Almost black with a bubbly head.

500ml bottle at home. Pours near-black, big bubbly beige head. Light roast and chocolate aromas. Taste has a little more chocolate, slight metallic note. Sweet finish. Quite light bodied and thin. Not bad, not great.
