3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 RichardW (1155) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - JAN 13, 2012
Has your typical Sheps aroma, which has some sulphury notes and makes them quite readily distinguishable. Soft on the palate, with a good fizz on the back of the tongue. Doesn’t hit you with the Wow factor, but is a great example of a traditional English beer. Some chewiness and citrus work together fairly well, lemon being the discernible flavour in the aftertaste. Has a dry tanginess late on.

Bottle. A firm, small, off-white head sits on top of a clear, dark golden body. The aroma is on the malty side, with bread, biscuits and some pleasant hoppy fruityness. Too malty I think. That goes for the flavor too, it’s more malty than I’d like it to be. Some fruity and lightly grassy hops chime in, but I think it’s too malt forward. Medium body, quite dry. Not my kind of bitter, but an honest beer anyway. 111105
