A smooth and fruity beer, bursting with refreshing flavours of citrus fruits combined with rounded, malty notes. This crisp and citrussy beer is brewed using a single hop variety, Earlybird to give a light malty beer with fresh floral aromas.

Clearly a Shepherd Neame brew in its distinctive hop malt style. Fairly dry in the palate.

March 2011: Clear 500ml bottle, no best before date found. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard: lovely amber coloured body, clear and clean looking. On top sat a white head of bubbles, slowly subsiding. Citrus and hoppy aroma, nothing heavy, but an aroma none the less. More hop than malts in the flavour, tangy and fairly crisp in the mouthfeel. Another average bottled beer from Shepherd Neame, they seem to make hundreds of them!

Copper colored pour. One finger off-white head. A little bit of lacing as it quickly falls. Skunky aroma, some malt, and a bit of perfume. Very hoppy up front, that quickly gives way to a dry maltiness. Thin and doesn’t finish all too well.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. A bitter with a copperish colour and a sweetish spicy hoppy aroma. Taste is malty, with some light fruitiness and brief hoppy finish. For a supermarket own label this is ok - definitely tastes like a passable traditional bitter (or more specificaly a Shepherd Neame beer) - but nothing special.

Has your typical Sheps aroma, which has some sulphury notes and makes them quite readily distinguishable. Soft on the palate, with a good fizz on the back of the tongue. Doesn’t hit you with the Wow factor, but is a great example of a traditional English beer. Some chewiness and citrus work together fairly well, lemon being the discernible flavour in the aftertaste. Has a dry tanginess late on.
