Maker: Saint Archer Brewing Company, San Diego, California, USA ***
Beer: Saint Archer IPA (bottled, unfiltered, 330ml) ***
Style: India Pale Ale (IPA) ***
ALC.VOL.: 7.0% ***
"Everything you’d expect from a great American IPA: Hop-forward, yet civilized. Bitter but balanced. Cascade hops ring loud and clear with citrus/pine notes and are backed up by a chorus of our other favorites - Apollo, Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Crystal, and Simcoe. " [brewery notes] ***
Colour: Bright yellow, slightly hazy. Big, frothy white head. ***
Nose: Sweet lemon, pinewood, herbs, grass. ***
Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Moderate carbonation. ***
Taste: Bitter pine and herbs dominate the start. Mixed citrus fruit. But mostly pine. The middle increasingly so, with resin added to the mix. Finish is only marginally less bitter; hoppy, resinous still. And so is the after taste, with a more generous citrus note there, too. ***
Impressions: Very much a hardcore American Pale Ale, with bitterness conquering everything. I like that, but lovers of fruity or maltier APA’s/IPA’s should probably abstain. This is a hoppy, pinewood-dominated beer.

Santa Clara, Ca - Santa Clara Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Sparkling, light golden pour, soft snow-white head, decent film of lacing. Resiny aroma with a hint of cat urine, some spruce accents. Solid IPA flavor with some resiny citrus bittersweet notes, some light caramel sweetness, a bit of saffron - like spiciness. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Lean and blah, no real hop aroma for iPa clear orange. Very fizzy. Taste astringent and bitter but not in fresh hop way. Not good in my opinion.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a can.
Aroma is fairly hop forward with a medium light, pale cracker malt backbone. Hops are citrus with orange and grapefruit and tropical with pineapple and mango. Some light stone fruit notes too.
Pours a pale, yellow straw color with a small, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers. Medium light lacing and small legs.
Flavor is slightly sweet with a medium light pale cracker malt note, some of which lingers in the finish. Medium high to high bitterness. Hops are not as pronounced as in the aroma but there is some grapefruit, orange and mango with a light resin note.
Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a pretty good IPA. Nice hop aromas, good malt malt presence, good bitterness, nice dry finish. Could use a bit more hop flavors though.
