3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from CraftShack. Pours amber gold with a decent foamy white head. Aroma is mixed citrus/resin. Med body. It’s very hoppy stuff. It’s earthy, floral, citrus, pine - sort of in that sequence. The malt holds the hop, but very, very gently. This is an ale that suggest there’ll be a hop burn. Finishes earthy bitter for me. Just excellent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Orange colored beer with a white head. Sweet citrus and candy on the nose. Sugar, caramel, and pine. Maybe a touch of kiwi (the one really nice thing about the beer). Flavor is sweet and malty. Sugar, caramel, and bread. Pine, some grapefruit, and a hint of bitterness.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (Bomber, $4.99). Pours with a clear golden hued body and a larger, fluffy white head that leaves good lace and is well retentive. Aromas are of floral hops, a bit muted. Lightly sweet, honeysuckle, biscuity malt. Moderate citrus, fruity esters and grapefruit pith. Flavors are hoppy, dry, fruity, medium bitter. Lightly chlorine like. A hint of pine. Low bitterness vs high hop flavor (a good thing). Fuller carbonation, dry. Medium bodied. A light resiny cohumulone bite in the finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Stone Escondido. Clear orange. Decent lace. Red fruit and melon nose. Clean body, not as abusive as the other IPAs on tap today. Butterscotch adds some density and needed sweetness. Still, quite heavy on the bitterness. Solid.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle pours with a deep crystal clear gold body that supports a modest dirty white head of foam. The aroma offers up an initial note of grapefruit like citrus hops and then it gets into a pleasing array of dank onion and shallot like earthy hoppiness that swirl around the citrus notes. The taste is similar with a tasty rich mix of grapefruit and tangerine as well as bitter hoppy onion dankness and slivers of pine hops. These notes come together very well and lead to a semi dry finish that creates a fairly sessionable sort of drinkability. Solid IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy golden coloured body with a nice three centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of bright citrus and piney hops with a good floral and grapefruity note at the end - mouth watering! Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and floral hoppiness up front with a good malt backbone to balance and a smooth but pungent grapefruity hop finish. Aftertertaste has a deep hop bitterness with a great malt backbone and a relatively light and smooth finish for a San Diego based IPA, but still shows nicely. Overall, a good IPA that I wish I could get regularly, but not as hoppy nor as intense as AleSmith or Stone, but a solid choice for a SD-based IPA! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Olive Tree Market Place in San Diego, California on 07-June-2013 for US$4.49 sampled at home in Washington in celebration of finishing the USMC Marathon on 27-October-2013.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A steady pour into my New Belgium goblet produces a two finger thick, fairly good lasting, pale tan colored head that leaves some nice lacing on the sides of the glass. The beer is a clear, red-copper color that shws a brilliantly clear, almost metallic, massively bright copper hue. The beer is expressively hoppy in the nose, and is noticeable as soon as I pop the cap. Caramelized citrus zest, bright tangelo, candied grapefruit zest, lots of lychee, softer floral peach and tropical notes round out the “sweet” side of the hops, but there is also an herbal, dank edge to the hop aromatics; slight menthol, definite pine, some “hemp” oil dankness, and a hint of woodiness plays a supporting role to the other hop notes. As you really start to dig into the nose some malt character starts to become noticeable, whole grain cracker, and a touch of dried hay.
Fairly dry, but not so much that the hop character isn’t still juicy, definitely light bodied and quaffable, but still has some palate heft to it, and this has a huge bitterness to it that lingers in the finish. Juicy hop flavors of lychee, super ripe tangelo zest, floral peach nectar, sweetened hemp oil, ripe spruce tips; really just a huge mix of citrus, woody pine, backed by dank herbaceous notes.
This is a really fantastic IPA, it hits the spot if you like an aggressively hopped IPA that doesn’t really get harsh or too hoppily astringent. You can’t beat a fresh, overly hopped IPA.
