Bishop’s Barrel No. 1 is an Imperial Stout aged in 48 Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for ten months. The nose is all bourbon and chocolate. The taste starts with a mix of spice with the bourbon and chocolate emerging and lingering through the finish. The light carbonation keeps the beer from becoming cloying, almost giving it a perception of lightness. A pleasant sipping beer, the bourbon is both present but not overpowering as you work your way through the glass. This beer should be served at 55°F or a couple degrees warmer.

Bottle from Live Oak....from a long ass time ago. Pours a super dark color, brown and black. Slick head. Aroma is woody, dark chocolate and roast. Oak on the flavor with vanilla and dark chocolate. Finishes a little more bitter than hoped for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355mL. Pours a clear deep mahogany/deep brown. Weaker foam that takes a lot of coaxing to get hardly anything. Nose is pretty hefty barrel- rich coconut, toast, but also a ton of dark fruits- licorice, dates, raisins. Taste is not as good as expected- dusty and papery with a full barleywine body. Not even close to imperial stout as this is completely void of roast, chocolate, body, and bitterness. It is more like a Firestone Walker anniversary beer- some sort of Parabola/Abacus blend. The palate isn’t even that thick and there is no cloying sugar. But lemon tea, black tea, sweet ’n’ low, a raisins create the flavor profile. I like the barrel notes overall but the base beer has thinned out perhaps and was probably never an imperial stout from the beginning. Chocolate is not one of the flavors in this beer.

Nice lacey on the glass. Retains head nicely. Great barrel flavor. Not overly sweet. When you breath out , get wood, smoke and whiskey flavors.

One of the best I’ve had from this brewery. Strong bourbon aroma with sweet malt, definitely alcohol. Cool dark color with a small head. Carbonation was higher than expected, which kind of distracted from the smoothness. A mix of malty flavors, including chocolate, caramel and some roasted grains. The bourbon really stands out in a nice way and lingers.

Poured from bottle purchased at Friendly Spot in San Antonio. Pours a thin black color with small head. Aroma is rich, chocolate, bourbon, some sweetness in the smell, maybe vanilla. The taste is really good, smooth, and rich. It is sweet, and the bourbon is clearly there, but it isn’t too hot or boozy. This is a great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great blend of caramel, chocolate and bourbon, bourbon, bourbon! Medium mouthfeel; alcohol is noticeable, though not overwhelming. Very enjoyable brew. Thanks Pastor Grant!

Very dark brown, almost black, with a khaki head. Nice roasted malt, licorice, and bourbon. Vanilla, coconut, and some dark fruit. A hint of burnt sugar, too. Nice coconut, vanilla, and fudge flavors. Roasted malt, licorice, bourbon, and dark fruit. Quite nice.

Bottle thanks to Hopscotch. Dark brown pour wit a white head. Sweet caramel malt aromas. Bland, lifeless, and uninspiring.

Bottle courtesy of t0rin0, thanks! Very dark brown color, small tan head. Aroma of chocolate covered brownies. Taste is thick, rich brandied chicolate bon bons and peppermint. Tasty.
