COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bishop’s Barrel No. 1 is an Imperial Stout aged in 48 Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for ten months. The nose is all bourbon and chocolate. The taste starts with a mix of spice with the bourbon and chocolate emerging and lingering through the finish. The light carbonation keeps the beer from becoming cloying, almost giving it a perception of lightness. A pleasant sipping beer, the bourbon is both present but not overpowering as you work your way through the glass. This beer should be served at 55°F or a couple degrees warmer.

Aroma is chocolate with caramel and coconut overtones. Pour is black with no head. Flavor is sticky sweet; caramel, coconut, vanilla, and chocolate...the bourbon flavors are strong but the beer holds its ground well. I really wish this brewery would do more great beers like this.

sample from bottle at 2014 houston big brew fest. Black with small head. Wonderful bourbon aroma. Chocolate roasty malt with the perfect amount of bourbon. Rich and complex.

"No hint of 12%, thought the barrel shines. Whiskey, coconut, vanilla, molasses, and chocolate almost on equal measures. Very smooth feel. Flavor marches the aroma with a hint of roast and graham cracker. Best TX beer I’ve had so far I think..."

In BB vertical 7/10/14. Bottle from HeffIAm...thanks, man! Been wanting to try this for a while. Pretty thin considering...watery rim from the age? Boozy bourbon nose, with a lot of dark malt.coffee. Dark almost ashy malts to balance the sweet barrel vanilla, some dark dried fruit, hot finish, but not harsh. Preferred this to #3 despite the extra age on this one...less of a hot mess.

Bottle... Mostly clear, dark brown ale with a small, quickly-dissipating, beige head. The nose is a decadent medley of fudge, bourbon-soaked brownies and light molasses. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of deeply roasted malts, semi-sweet dark chocolate and molasses accompanied by a nice measure of bourbon. Short, vanilla finish. Bottle courtesy of Rosebud butternuts!

12oz bottle in a teku. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, chocolate and vanilla, some alcohol, and light notes of dark fruits. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything. Smooth texture. A good imperial stout.

Brown pour, brown head. This beer tastes just like chewing on a wet bourbon barrel. How do I know? Well I don’t. But I can imagine that it tastes just like this beer. Barrel overload. Nice aroma tho.

12oz at a bottle shop with Taylor. Pours black with no head. Aroma is bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate. Taste is whiskey booze, big chocolate malt, very full flavor. Big complex stout, very nice and strangely smooth for the style.

Opaque black - brown beer with a decent pale tan head. Palate has body and fine sharp carbonation. Medium dark malts and semi sweet wood, just a trace of vanilla. Medium bourbon. Quite an earthy sweet Impy this one, especially in the mid and finish. Nice enough!

Bottle from Live Oak....from a long ass time ago. Pours a super dark color, brown and black. Slick head. Aroma is woody, dark chocolate and roast. Oak on the flavor with vanilla and dark chocolate. Finishes a little more bitter than hoped for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
