cb (810), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA Mar 7, 2006 Aroma was that of strawberries and a milk-chocolate almond milkshake. Tons of caramel and coffee...nutty with a bit of whole-grain cracker. Nice sticky lacing. Prickly alcholic finish seemed to clash with the hops but it worked as it warmed. Tasty. Thanks to fly for the bottle.
Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 25, 2008 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of KAggie97. Clear amber golden with floating impurities and a creamy beige head. Fat aroma of caramel, overripe fruit and aroma hops. Very full-bodied with plenty of caramel and overripe fruit with a vaguely oxidized edge. Rather bitter finish. Another solid Divine offering from Saint Arnold. 201008 yespr (7788), Copenhagen O, Denmark Oct 23, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark orange with a diminished off-white head. Dense wooden and caramel malty aroma. Light liqourice note to a dense wooden and smooth hoppy base flavour with a dense caramel malty mix into it. Smooth and dry wooden finish. Ends mild bitter into the far finish. Grovlam (3325), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 20, 2008 Bottle. [Tasting @ Papsoe 20-10-2008] Average bubbly beige head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Dark amber color. Aroma of wood, rye bread, alcohol, fruit, grain, caramel. Over the palate came floral, dusty grassy and mild apricot like notes. Full bodied with an average carbonation and thick alcoholic texture. Moderated sweet flavor with good counter sweetness. Lingering sweet alcoholic finish. WeeHeavySD (2033), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 11, 2008 12oz from lb4lb, a re-release bottle. Pours deep orange/brown with a tan head. Nose is deep and rich with lots of dark fruit and ruddy rich malts. Taste is big and malty with a lot of nice notes, This is not as good as I’d expect but pretty good. Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 5, 2008 In short: A sweet and floral/perfumy barley wine. Not really interesting at this stage (2 years old)
How: Bottle 12oz. Shared by willblake. Bottle was probably about 2 years old when we drank it
The look: Murky ugly cloudy brown body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Nose of candy and flowers. Dominant flavours of hard-candies and caramel candy-bars and such. It goes without saying that the beer very sweet. Could be a good foundation for a barley wine but instead of “normal” hops I got a perfumy floral taste. An ok sweet sipper. At 2 years old the beer was probably past its prime. I looked at willblake and said “some just don’t age gracefully”, he said “indeed this bottle is past its prime”, I said “ehh… the beer.. yeah… that’s what I meant… this beer doesn’t age gracefully”.
