COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was inspired by David Rogers’ winning entry in the 2011 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition. The color is orangy amber with a light, creamy head. The nose has rich malt notes and a little alcohol that combines with a spicy hop note to create a complex bouquet. The taste has a spicy, malty beginning that smoothes out into a creamy middle and a warming finish. While this beer is enjoyable now, it is designed to be aged and will shine after a year or more in the bottle. This will allow sherry flavors to develop as the alcohol oxidizes. It is also important to allow this beer to warm up so that all of the flavors emerge and round out the high alcohol level.

Courtesy of Eric. Pours copper with a white head. Smells lightly fruity with some malty undertones. Tastes earthy with some fruity undertones. Enjoyable.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Caleb! Dark brownish red pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, toffee, caramel, hints of molasses into a bit of spice, touch of spice and yeasty notes with some toasted bread as well. Taste was a mix of bread, cocoa, toast into a bit of caramel, toffee, molasses, some dark fruit into a bit of slight oak, vanilla, finishing fairly sweet. Pretty tasty.

3 1/2 year old bottle. Aroma has notes of sherry, malt sweetness and black cherry. Some booze on the nose but not much. Appearance is a see through amber color with no head (possibly due to the age of the bottle). Looks more like a cider than a beer. Flavor has molasses like sweetness and is very malty. Exceedingly drinkable for 10%. A little on the sweet side for me, but overall

Bottle: No fizz when popping the cap; coincidentally, absolutely no head forms during the syrupy, viscous pour. Clear burnt orange-copper body. Looks like whiskey. Aroma contains caramel malt, prunes, moderate oxidation staleness, spicy-earthy hops, & toffee. Flavor has light caramel, toffee, earthy hops, anise, dates... But wow, there’s a strong finish of cardboard & oxidation. Very stale finish with a terrible mouth feel. Oily, slick, with NO carbonation at all. Flat, the mouth feel exacerbates the off-flavor in the finish. Bleh.

Pours a light hazy gold with no head. Aroma of malt, malt and more malt. Taste follows, malty and oxidized, belgian yeast. Not for me.

Bottle optained in my very first trade ( that took place on BA ) . At the time, I was told to keep this one for a year or 2 . So I did, and here we are, on the verge of 2015 , Time to finally see wether it was worth trading ( and waiting ) for . Pours clear, dark orange, with a good white head . Smell is toffee , sweetness , malty , bit copper , some leaves-spicyness . Taste is bit bitter, very full bodied , sweet , metallic grainyness , buttery , toffee , slightly spiced in the back. Aftertaste is bitter maltysweetness and slightly metallic . certainly very nice, but nothing too seek out specificaly . I prefered the quad they made ;)

[6595-20140815] Bottle. Fruity date roast wood aroma. Slightly hazy, amber brown body with a quick bubbly head. Roasted raisin plum wood flavour. Medium-full body. Tasty. (8/3/8/4/16) 3.9

12oz bottle via trade. Poured a muddy apple cider brown with a smaller off white head. Aroma is alk malts, caramel, some sugat sweetness, dough, biscuit, wet nut shells. Palate is nice, medium body with softer carbonation. Flavor of old dough, old bread, raisin skins, nut shells, alcohol, hint of vanilla. Meh.

Again thanks to Mora2000 for sponsoring this week of Texas drinking. This beer is hazy orange brown with sweet aromas of toffee and tropical fruits. Tastes of caramel, toffee, papaya, booze, raisins, light herbal. Palate is fine not too sweet.

2014-08-15. Dark orange amber body with a modest beige head. 3+ Aroma is sweet, caramel malt and alcohol notes. Flavour is similar, sweet caramel malt, toasty biscuity accents. Average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent malt forward brew. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

Bottle: Murky poured amber hue which zero carbonation nor lace. Good toffee and figgy pudding stuff going on. Lots of dark fruit notes of figs and dates appearing. Still some brash bitterness lingering so this Old Ale needs to rest for a year or three. I wish I had another to cellar till 2015, oh well.
