COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was inspired by David Rogers’ winning entry in the 2011 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition. The color is orangy amber with a light, creamy head. The nose has rich malt notes and a little alcohol that combines with a spicy hop note to create a complex bouquet. The taste has a spicy, malty beginning that smoothes out into a creamy middle and a warming finish. While this beer is enjoyable now, it is designed to be aged and will shine after a year or more in the bottle. This will allow sherry flavors to develop as the alcohol oxidizes. It is also important to allow this beer to warm up so that all of the flavors emerge and round out the high alcohol level.

Bottle shared at Natifest ’13. Poured clear orange copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2012 Bottle with great thanks to Tran from Perry’s! Pours with a medium hazed golden orange hue. Tight but somewhat small, just off-white head. Decent retention above average lace. Aromas are of toffee, vanilla, nougat, almond paste, marmalade. Slightly earthy hop profile with a hint of EKG like suppressed orange note. Warm and bready. Mostly malt in the aroma mainly toasted character. Medium to medium low esters, alcohol is there but well restrained. A touch grassy. Flavors are warm, toffee, almond paste (and pastries normally associated with it, i.e. bear claw, etc) nougat. Warm and inviting. Alcohol is there but not distracting. Somewhat dry finish, with still a nicely complex malt character. Fresh baked bread. Yeast character is pretty low for a traditionally English style beer. Medium marmalade and spice from the hop character. Medium to medium low carbonation. Somewhat warming. Fuller bodied but not oppressive in the slightest. A thoroughly enjoyable beer that show cases malt character without being too flashy. I liked it quite a bit as a big beer that one doesn’t need to over analyze.

On draught at the Draught House brewpub. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of dank fruit, caramel and yeast. Medium body with flavors of ripe fruit, earthy malt, yeast and a touch if spice. The finish is slightly boozy with a fruity malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
