The aroma is distinctly Belgian and has a hint of fruit. As with most Belgian beers, the hops are primarily used for bitterness and provide little to no flavor or aroma. We kept the malt bill relatively simple to allow each malt to come through in its own way without getting all muddled together. The caramel and chocolate malts, in particular, work well together and you can taste each of them in the beer. We also added a large amount of Belgian Extra Dark Candi Syrup during fermentation, which darkened the color, imparted dark fruit-like flavors, and boosted the alcohol. Despite its high strength though, the alcohol only comes out as a warmth on the back end but is not over powering. The aftertaste is slightly sweet but also has a dryness that makes you want more.

Bottle from djd07, thanks again! Brown pour with a light khaki head. Aroma of dark fruit, brown sugar, and slight yeast. Flavor is similar with notes of toffee and sweet malts. Abv is hidden completely. Delicious.

Bottle, 10/19/2014, shared by dfroms. Dark brown pour, ruby highlights, a few wisps of head apparent. Aroma is brown sugar, plum and other dark fruity overtones, dark toffee, touch of chocolate, older leather character. Taste is dark brown malts, brown sugar, spices, caramel, smooth finish. Thick body. Great, really authentic and delicious quad, reminds me of a well-aged Trappist brew.

Bottle. Pours a deep cola-ish mahogany color. Aroma is very authentic rich quad: prunes, plums, burnt sugar, banana, clove, cola, stewed cherries, faint milk chocolate. Taste is milk chocolate- covered cherries with plum, prune, caramel, and a sweet bourbon-like finish. Alcohol is well-hidden. Light but creamy texture. Excellent.

(22oz bomber) clear dark burgundy, fine tan bubbles. Nose of dark candi sugar, peach, caramel, very Belgian, spiced. Taste of dark Belgian candi sugar, odd saccharin taste, weird but good.

What an amazing bottle. Aroma is dark fruits, candied sugar, and chocolate bread. Pours deep mahogany with minimal tan head and lacing. Taste is just perfect. Pumpkin bread crust, brown sugar, dates, figs, raisins, and a big chocolate malt behind it. Just delicious and insanely addictive. I wanted more right away. Can’t recommend this one enough to anyone.

Pours almost a brown color with off-white head. Dark fruits, alcohol, sweetness, and some yeast on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes sweet. Gets better with age.

Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters, showing a clarified mahogany hue, with a modest, diminishing layer of off white head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was caramel & sweetness, with esters of plum & cherry. Ditto on the taste, with syrupy texture, medium body, moderate hop bitterness, and decent enough carbonation to convey the flavor notes. Alcohol warmth was most evident toward the finish. Quite tasty!

Bottle. Pours a dark red-brown with hints of almost magenta; the head is fine-grained, tan, lacy, and thin. Nose is chocolate, caramel, dates, toffee, fig, and a touch of mushroom. Very rich and sweet, with notes of barley syrup, coffee, and milk chocolate; there’s a bourbon booziness undertone that adds a nice warming note. Finish is long, warm, and elegantly smooth. Quite nice, and probably has a few more years of aging potential in it.
