Brewer Casey Motes’ Description: The goal of this beer was to make a Belgian/American hybrid using west coast American hops and rye to emulate the fruit and spices often found in Belgian beers. The beer pours a bright golden color. The nose is a mixture of phenolics from the Belgian wit yeast and light citrus from the American hops with a touch of graininess. Rye adds sweetness and complexity to the pilsner and aromatic malts. The spice of the rye is somewhat subdued at lower temperatures but becomes more apparent as the beer warms. Cascade and centennial hops were used for both flavor and aroma, adding floral and citrus notes to play off the strengths of the yeast. Belgian candi sugar was added during fermentation to bump up the alcohol while allowing the beer to avoid finishing too sweet. The dry finish hides the 10% alcohol nicely and makes you want to take another sip. This beer is best enjoyed at 50°F to 55°F. Pours a bright golden amber color. There’s a small head that dissipates rather quickly, then leaves a circle of white tiny foam around the rim of the glass. The aroma is lemon zest, a grassy note, some light grains, and a slight dirt aroma. The flavor is yeasty and spicy. The rye really pushes to the front. I poured it somewhat warm, and as it warmed even more the spiciness was prominent. Not really a fan.

Originally rated on 8/27/14. Aromas of candi sugar mostly, next comes booze with hints of wheat, fruity yeasts, and faint citrus. Body is golden With plenty of yeast floaters, the head is a thin ring that leaves spotty lace.Flavor is much the same as the aroma, the yeasts and rye spiciness comes out a bit more, and the sweetness goes down a bit. The alcohol is still a bit hot on the backside.Overall its a pretty decent representation of the style, you gotta let it warm up a bit but not bad. I have one left, think i’ll save it till winter and see if the booze backs down a touch.

12 oz bottle from a trade about a year ago. Color is a hazy blonde color with very thin head. Aroma shows pale grain, honey and hints of spice.

The flavor shows the grain base with yeast and a big amount of sweetness. Not really sure what the goal of this beer is? Yeast and a lot of sweetness is all I’m getting here. Really just kind of flat in the flavor department. Reminds me of a really high ABV Belgian single.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of Mora2000) Pours a clear golden body with a spare white head. Aroma of apricot, florals, peach, citrus, and minerals. Flavor of dried apricots, tangerine, minerals, dough, caramel, toffee, and citrus with a dry, vitamin finish.

Bottle from Luekens Liquors in Tampa. Nose is strongly phenolic and spicy, peppery. Fairly clear, light orange in color. minimal white head. Taste is candy up front, sweet, lightly perfume like. Moderate hop bitterness, with not much hop flavor. Looks like this beer is about a year old though. I love the malt flavor in this one. A light alcohol warming comes across after a few sips. Overall, since the hops have faded, I quite like this one.

Nice beer. Aromatic with dark fruits and spice. Beautiful amber color. Almost candy-like. Big flavors of grains with a touch of rye, some citrus hops character at the end mixed with Belgian yeast spiciness. Alcohol is there just not overpowering.

Bottled, orange pour with minimal white foam, aroma is nice fruity yeast notes, flavor is starting to round out on this, much fuller and nuanced than when released, still needs some work on the finish but keep an eye on these

I'm quite enjoying this sweet spicy beer. The golden color misled me a little because it has actual flavor. The spicy rye blended better with the sweet Belgian as it warmed up. I'm aging a six, but I'll really enjoy the other six right now!

Thin head, cloudy yellow amber color. Nose is fruity, malt heavy and sweet. Licorice, toffee, tangerine. Medium heavy body. Can’t really pick out the alcohol, it covers well for 10%. Great beer. I want another.
