3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a thick inky black with a firm khaki-colored head. Aroma is just a rush of malt, some cocoa, some roast coffee. Very little hop sharpness.
Taste is more heavy malts, this time moderated slightly with a light hop bite. More dark chocolate, espresso flavors, along with quite a prevalent lactic sweetness that almost pushes this one into the milk stout range. The hops are present and perceptible but never strong or commanding. No real alcoholic bite at all, either.
Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, very smooth and filling. For the style, I think this is a little tame; it rather rides the line between sweet stout and Imperial, and could easily go either way with a tweak in the recipe. Overall, a little one-dimensional, especially considering the style.

Thanks to Zinister for the bottle. Pours pitch black with minimal head and lacing. Looks very thick. Has a nice espresso aroma. Very complex in flavor. Chocolate, coffee, dates and roasted malts. Bit oxidated but still good.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Saint Arnold Divine Reserve 5 has a very thin, tan head and a deep, dark brown appearance (may as well say black). The aroma is full- sweet, dark-roasted barley malt, dark fruits, liquorice, black cherries, candi sugar, some chocolate, and some coffee. Flavor is the same, with some powder, cellar mold, and a decent amount of bitterness showing itself. Mouthfeel is mostly thick, and Saint Arnold Divine Resrve 5 finishes mostly dry, sweet, and quite drinkable. One would not guess this has a 10% abv. Overall, this is just world class, and I love it! If you ever see it, get it! RJT

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle from ericandersnavy- thanks again, Eric! Twist-off. Uh-oh. This thing was bottled in 2007, so it opened with no sound of air escaping and poured a jet black color with no head. I guess there is a tiny ring of tan. Aroma of roasted malts, molasses, dark chocolate, soy, nuts, fudge, and earth. Flavor of coffee and roasted malts, cola, soy, molasses, dark chocolate. The body has thinned and is very smooth and roasty with no carbonation. Probably would have been great a few years ago. Still worth trying but donít wait any longer if you have one.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aged 5.5 years (2007 vintage): This beer ages extremely well. It has a dark-brown color and an aroma of strong alcohol with a hint of what seems like syrupy, concentrated hops. After over five years so much of the malts have burned off that it seems much like a barley wine, but on steroids. Its flavor is almost smoky and very unique. I canít get over how well this aged. Itís so complex and impressive.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle pours thick black with a big dark brown head, substantial lacing the length of the glass. Aroma is big cocoa and roast with thin dark fruits and coffee as well. Flavor is very nice and I suspect a tad sweeter than it was initially, but itís very complex with layers of sweet cocoa, tobacco, molasses and toffee. Very well rounded beer that has aged gracefully to say the least!

I thought the taste would be malty but does a 180 and shows off some really nice roasty noes with a whoppers, besides Southhampton RIS this is one of the best RIS Iíve had
