COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Bottle courtesy Ucusty, pours beautiful deep brown with nice pancake colored head. The nose is coffee, chocolate, and a bit of molasses. The mouthfeel is coating, but a bit sharp in carbonation. The flavor is on the coffee side with an earthiness and molasses. Quite a rich and creamy beer with a hot and slight bitter finish.

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve 5 has a very thin, tan head and a deep, dark brown appearance (may as well say black). The aroma is full- sweet, dark-roasted barley malt, dark fruits, liquorice, black cherries, candi sugar, some chocolate, and some coffee. Flavor is the same, with some powder, cellar mold, and a decent amount of bitterness showing itself. Mouthfeel is mostly thick, and Saint Arnold Divine Resrve 5 finishes mostly dry, sweet, and quite drinkable. One would not guess this has a 10% abv. Overall, this is just world class, and I love it! If you ever see it, get it! RJT

12 oz. bottle from ericandersnavy- thanks again, Eric! Twist-off. Uh-oh. This thing was bottled in 2007, so it opened with no sound of air escaping and poured a jet black color with no head. I guess there is a tiny ring of tan. Aroma of roasted malts, molasses, dark chocolate, soy, nuts, fudge, and earth. Flavor of coffee and roasted malts, cola, soy, molasses, dark chocolate. The body has thinned and is very smooth and roasty with no carbonation. Probably would have been great a few years ago. Still worth trying but don’t wait any longer if you have one.

Aged 5.5 years (2007 vintage): This beer ages extremely well. It has a dark-brown color and an aroma of strong alcohol with a hint of what seems like syrupy, concentrated hops. After over five years so much of the malts have burned off that it seems much like a barley wine, but on steroids. Its flavor is almost smoky and very unique. I can’t get over how well this aged. It’s so complex and impressive.

Trocken süßer aber passender Beginn mit tiefer, sehr harmonischen und vollmundigen Noten. Rund, fruchtig, Weinnoten, zum Ende erdig-trocken, etwas hefig. 10/12/12/14/10/13

12oz bottle 1/13/10 (Courtesy of Beerandblues2)-Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice and molasses. Taste of chocolate, coffee, and soy sauce. This full bodied brew was a nice brew. Great job.

bottle pours thick black with a big dark brown head, substantial lacing the length of the glass. Aroma is big cocoa and roast with thin dark fruits and coffee as well. Flavor is very nice and I suspect a tad sweeter than it was initially, but it’s very complex with layers of sweet cocoa, tobacco, molasses and toffee. Very well rounded beer that has aged gracefully to say the least!

Bottle from bu11zeye, thanks! Dark black with a thin tan head. Aroma of soy, malt, light coffee, mild chocolate and dark malts. Taste of dark roasted malt, chocolate, lactose, soy and light coffee. Full bodied with a mild chalky finish. Decent.

Big thanks to bu11zeye for hooking me up with a bunch of DR’s... light black body with only a bit of light tan head... the aroma is all malts, whopper malt, kuhnhenn malt forwardness, some prunes, a bit of roast round this out, awesome... I thought the taste would be malty but does a 180 and shows off some really nice roasty noes with a whoppers, besides Southhampton RIS this is one of the best RIS I’ve had

Pours a dark brown body with a spare orange brown head. Aroma is rich with chocolate and burnt roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is full in body and high in warmth. You can definitely taste the chocolate and coffee. The heavy flavor is accompanied with a hint of bread and caramel. This beer leaves a charred finish.
