Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Pours pitch black with small brown head. Smell is charred malt, dark chocolate, espresso and ash. Flavor is much of the same with more coming from the espresso and chocolate. Still a little fizzy for the style but a nice full body. One of my favorite Texas beers but I preferred this one fresher.

Bottle thanks to Bu11zye. Pours black with tan head. Aroma of dark roast and chocolate. Rich flavor of expresso and chocolate, sweet, very nice. Mouthfeel is full body, medium carbonation. Overall, great stout, loved it!!!!!

Courtesy of After4ever, thank you Tom! It’s pitch black and the head is nougat-colored, small, creamy, lasting and the mouthfeel is oily. The aroma has notes of dark fruits like figs and prunes, licorice, caramel and chocolate. The flavour has a light sweetness, a roasted bitterness and notes of roasted malt, chocolate, sweet licorice, dark fruits and it ends on a bitter and slightly dry note – it’s full-bodied and complex and nice!

Black with a thick black brown head. Really nice looking beer, first one I saw at the tasting, but I saved it to next to last and it was worth it. Flavor is huge with a rich dark chocolate taste and some coffee flavors at the end. Good smell and a thick body.
