Pours a deep opaque, rich burgandy color with a gorgeous lasting and creamy beige head. Smell is of sweet, fruity hops reminiscent of peaches, mango and maybe a touch of citrus right out of the gate, which opens up and dulls a bit giving off a pleasant woodiness. Taste is semi sweet caramel and fruity malt, but hopped plenty enough to balance with a moderate piney and earthy bite to it. Creamy with a medium to semi-rich slightly slick body with light prickly carbonation. Right now it is incredibly balanced between the fruity sweetness and woodsy hoppiness, making it pretty drinkable for a beer like this. Hoppy like a mild Double IPA, with the smoothness, warmth and creaminess of a malty barley wine makes this a great all around beer. I’m noticing some alcohol in the flavor in this bottle that I didn’t in the 1st, but this is still another solid offering in the Divine Reserve series.
Droptank (63), Spring, USA Aug 21, 2008 I had never had a barley wine until I tried this beer. Wow, strong and delicipous. Definately a sipper drink. Dark, with a burnt flavor profile. Mixed feelings as far as how much I went through to get it! thickfreakness (53), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 21, 2008 I let this one settle down for a while. When fresh it was a huge hop bomb and a little abrasive for me, but after a couple months this one has settled down nicely. Pours a glowing, hazy amber with a fluffy light yellowish head. Smells of juicy citrus and a hefty amount of caramelized malts. Taste is similar with a huge (but no longer abrasive), citrus hop punch and an extremely smooth caramel malt backbone. Smooth and medium carbonation. This one is really coming into its own after a disappointing start for me. I can’t wait to see what more time does for it. Beershine (1207), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 At Vero. Dark reddish wood color. Rusty and fruity aromas. Malty and metallic and a little bit burnt. argo0 (6145), Washington DC, USA Aug 15, 2008 (12oz bottle, thanks kmweaver) Creamy and small off-white head atop lightly hazed copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin/plum, grapefruit, orange. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, plum, grapefruit, some pine, light orange. Medium-full body. Big but definitely not overpowering. hophead75 (1648), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Aug 14, 2008 12 oz bottle from Emacgee, thanks! Hazy amber in color with a medium long lasting off white head- nice lacing. Aroma of strong citrus and earthy hops, with a hint of the big caramel malt backbone behind it. Taste: a very assertive, hoppy barleywine- lots of citrus and earth, lightly floral, with a nice full caramel and dark fruit body. Bitterness lingers for quite awhile. Nice american BW.
