COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Important: let this beer warm to at least 50į before enjoying. This beer is black with some ruby highlights. The nose is full of pumpkin pie spices and some alcohol. There are notes of nutmeg, caraway and vanilla. The taste starts with chocolate malt with a hint of spice and rolls into a warm spicy alcohol taste which has the effect of creating the balance that usually comes from the hop bitter. There is some hop bitter on the finish, but not much. Overall, this beer finishes relatively dry for such a big beer. As it warms, the spices move forward in the taste and the chocolate moves to the finish. The pumpkin provides a pleasant undertone and a nice mouthfeel. The spices will probably fade some over time; they mellowed considerably while still in the fermenter.

Draft @ GABF. Pours a deep, dark cola-brown color; huge light-tan head with great retention and lacing. Plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg in the nose; spice forward. Dense, exceptionally assertive for a pumpkin beer: layers of raisins and other dried dark fruits; some warmth as well; a bit of overt alcohol is one of the main detractors, along with the excess of spice; cinnamon, nutmeg, and fruity alcohol; complex, if a touch coarse.

Vintage Bottle at Patrick's with Taylor. Pours black with light lacing. Aroma is huge nutmeg with malt backbone. Taste is huge overpowering nutmeg cinnamon, spices galore, cool aid. Finish is medium length.

12 oz bottle. From Rosebud butternuts. An enormous thank you!
Dark reddish brown almost black colour with a small tan head. A truck load of spices in the aroma. Sweetness, pumpkin, lots of spices and some darkness in there. The flavour is some sweet pie, chocolate, spices, mild roasted malt and more sweetness. Warms but the 11% is very well hidden. Enjoyable but not the kind of beer I would like to have every Friday.

Bottle by way of Bhops. Thanks, man. This was a treat. The spices were obvious as soon as the top came off. Nose was nutmeg cinnamon (?) and sweet brown sugar. Pour was a quickly dissipating, coarse head with a slightly reddish cast and the bottle was in the mid-50s deg F. when it came from the cellar. Iím not sure how old this is, but it has been in my cellar for probably a year. mouth feel was a little rough and there is some alcohol heat, but damned if the mellow sweetness and spicy flavors didnít hit the spot tonight. Flavors beyond the pie-spice were a clear pumpkin/squash note and the finish was all about pumpkin pie. The only thing that I noticed that seemed odd was a delayed after taste of dried straw or wheat chaff. Bun even that didnít bother me. Iíd drink this beer all fall and winter if I could get it.

Smells like Jager! For me thatís a good thing. I got chocolate, cinnamon, and liquorice (hence the jager) on the nose. Pours a deep black color with thin head. The taste was sweet and spicy up front, I got allspice, pumpkin and nutmeg, just like a pumpkin pie. Yet the beer finished somewhat with a dry bitterness. The body was big, full bodied and thick. This was an excellent dessert beer.

Rated in 2010 (Backlog). Black in color with a good sized tan head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, heavy notes of cinnamon and all spice, light squash, soil and earthy, and roasted malts. Taste is of chocolate, pumpkin pie spices, roasted malts, and light pumpkin.

This rating is for 2012 Pumpkinator on tap at the Saucer in Addison. DR9 is decidedly different and much better IMO.

Pours an opaque black with plenty of tan head and lace; great retention. Fresh pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and Thanksgiving spices dominate the nose, supported by roasted malt and caramelized booze. Mmmm.

Everything from the aroma finds its way to my palate, courtesy of a hefty body (with a surprising amount of carb). Spices all play off each other and the chocolate/cinnamon base marvelously. Truly impressive balance of flavors here; one of my absolute favorite pumpkin beers, and one of the precious few that can actually compete with TREAT. Impressive, especially from a Texas brewery.
