COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Cascadian dark is essentially a very dark version of an IPA. The secret is to balance the hop flavor with the black malts. We used a combination of Chinook Columbus, Centennial, Simcoe hops in this ale.

Black in the glass... strong citrus grapefruit aroma. Clean bitter roasted flavors mixed with a slight bittersweet citrus aftertaste. Overall, a drinkable... not to complex but tasty and enjoyable.

Bottle from Central Market. Pours a dark orange color with a fairly decent head. White and bubbly. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy, with noticeable fruit notes. Yeasty. Flavor is hoppy bitter with some hints of malty roast. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black in color with a khaki head. Big roasted malt and pine aromas. Fairly herbal, some chocolate, and a bit of blueberry. Spicy and bready, too. The flavor is somewhat bitter with a lot of roasted malt and pine. Herbal and spicy hops, a bit of earth, and chocolate. Interesting dried blueberry flavor on the finish.

Deep, dark brown in color with an off-white head, this beer has an incredibly unique aroma thatís bready, spiced well, and reminds me of an international grocery store. Itís really, really interesting and really great... but different! The flavor isnít as great, though, with a weird malty, roasted plant-like muskiness that almost tastes like burnt plastic. Itís good, but very weird. I almost donít know what to say about this beer.

Deep brown almost black in the glass. Minimal head. Aroma of toasted malt and hops. Chocolate malt and balanced hop bitterness on the palate.

(Draught) Pours a black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, mustiness, grain, light citrus, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, grass, cocoa, caramel, pine, earthiness, and burnt toast with a dry, bitter finish.

Draught. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose has some subtle hoppiness, but not too strong. Taste is a little bitter with some slight roasting in there. Quite smooth.

I still donít understand this style and not sure if this is a good representative. Still a good beer. On tap at Holy Grail. Above average scores for dark brown pour and palate. Some roasted flavor with hops at end

Tap flight at Freetail. Very dark brown pour with an impressive egg shell head that laces moderately well. Aroma is freezer burn and grass. Taste is freezer burn up front with decomposed lawn trimmings. Finish is a little bit of sweet roast and not bad. Admittedly there are only a few black IPAs I actually like...and this isnít on the list.

Very dark brown pour with a beige head that fades quickly. Aroma has sweet chocolate, roast, pine, and a little bread. Taste has pine and citrus rind up front, then some roast and a hint of smoke and chocolate. Lasting bitterness. Medium body. Really enjoyable.
