COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Santo is a black Kölsch, which technically doesn’t exist as a style, but this is as close as we can come to describing it. Essentially it is brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malt. It is light bodied and floral yet with a distinct dark malt flavor. Our goal was to create a dark yet refreshing beer that would pair perfectly with a plate of enchiladas. The label artwork is by Houston artist Carlos Hernandez who is known for his Day of the Dead Rock Star series of paintings and prints.

Clear dark brown with a thin head. Roasty nose kinda like burnt popcorn but not so bad, with a biscuity malty sweetness, and a roasty earthiness. Lightish body but balanced and well rounded flavor, kinda biscuit and crackery with an earthy sweetness and some Kolsh-like maltiness and bitterness. Like a sweet and roasty well-made Kolsh. Amazing.

Received a six pack as a gift. Wasn’t encouraged by the description of a black malt Kolsch, but was pleasantly surprised. Smooth, clean and very drinkable. Some day I will learn to not doubt Saint Arnold.

Has the aroma of a schwarz, but lacks almost all other characteristics. Approaches the smoothness of a kolsch, but leaves a sticky aftertaste. Above average beer.

botlle received as an extra, much thanx to azzy ( not sure he’s on RB as well though) splitted with 77 ships pours dark brown ( swartzbier? Black krolsh? would have expected much darker ) no real foam, smells like bread. light mouthfeel, malty.. not much taste i’d call this a dark coloured lager / pils kinda beer. ( what krolsh is , i’ve heard.. never had one so dont know for sure )

Black Kölsch? Robijn amber rood, weinig kraag. Zware vintage geuren, lichte oxidatie, donker fruit, ijzer, lager gist, lichtjes waterig. Zoet ijzer, lager gist, metaal, hoest siroop, kruiden, bruin brood, donker brood, bitter metaal, kruiden op het einde, herfst bladeren. OK mondgevoel voor iets wat oudere lager. Ok.

Dark brown almost black color. Light head with little to no lacing. Light body for as dark as it is. Munich malt makes up the majority flavor, but well balance with an effervescent finish. ---Rated via iPhone

bottle. clear light brown with a large, stable, cream colored head. a good looking beer. nose of light munich malt and honey-ish pale malts. really nice palate on this beer with an unmatched creaminess for being so light and refreshing. flavor of a very light brown ale with a hint caramel and nuts. hint of floral hops. not black enough for the schwarz catagory. black kolsch seems about right!
