COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Santo is a black Kölsch, which technically doesn’t exist as a style, but this is as close as we can come to describing it. Essentially it is brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malt. It is light bodied and floral yet with a distinct dark malt flavor. Our goal was to create a dark yet refreshing beer that would pair perfectly with a plate of enchiladas. The label artwork is by Houston artist Carlos Hernandez who is known for his Day of the Dead Rock Star series of paintings and prints.

Dark reddish-brown with a foamy cream-colored head. It looks a bit like Coca-Cola with a smattering of lacing. Aroma of nuts, light hops, toast and milk. The taste is nutty and a little toasty, with a hint of metal. Light-medium bodied, smooth carbonation, and a very slight dryness. I was excited when I picked this up, but it was a letdown. Everything about it is thin. It reminds me of Becks Dark. Not exactly what I was expecting.

Has the aroma of a schwarz, but lacks almost all other characteristics. Approaches the smoothness of a kolsch, but leaves a sticky aftertaste. Above average beer.

12oz bottle. Deep brown pour with a good amount of pillowy tan head. Many of Saint Arnold’s brews have a similar off aroma to me but this one also has sweet malt, roast, chocolate, and toffee. Flavor is slightly fruity, roasted, and earthy with a thin body. Reminds me a lot of Negro Modelo.

12 oz bottle. Pours very dark brown and opaque with a small light tan head. Nose is a faint aroma of German malts and some light chocolate. Taste is light maltiness with a hint of roastiness and chocolate. A bit overcarbonated. Fades on the end. Not bad-maybe you’d order one with a batch of tamales or enchiladas but I wouldn’t drink several of these at a session.

Light-colored brown, soda-like in appearance. Odd coffee-like aroma thanks to roasted malts + lager yeast. really nice aroma. flavor doesn’t really match the aroma, but it nice and sweet... easy and a little roasted, very smooth.

Clear dark brown with fluffy light brown foam head. Aroma is bitter coffee and some toffee. Taste is strong bitter, cold coffee. Long lasting bitter taste. (Houston 201303)

12 oz. bottle served in my Packers lager glass on Thanksgiving- poured a near black with just a slice of maroon color when held to a light source, thin white ring around the glass for a head. Aroma of roasted nuts, faint caramel, and mild chocolate. Hits the mouth with a light-medium body, malt has a distinct Munich feel to it, holds up in the middle, finish mellows out overtime with just a crisp bite from the hops. I can see myself allowing this into my regular rotation in my frig for sessions.

Dark with a good head. Surprisingly unique - a very light beer but also has a lot of the deep toasted malt flavor along with it.

Bottle from kegs and barrels. Pours a deep mahogany with a thin off white head. The aromas are coffee, bread, cookies. The mouthfeel is watery and slightly roasty with a light body. Cheers!

Hmm, yeah, "dark Kölsch" seems to sum it up rather nicely. Pours a slightly reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is a mix of spicy hops and roasted malt. Flavor is kind of weak until a burst of hops as it goes down. Maybe not a slam dunk but points for originality.
