The first release in our Moveable Yeast series, Weedwacker is the result of our pitching Lawnmower wort (wort is the unfermented beer) with Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast. Weedwacker will be available draft only. This is a study in how different yeasts have different effects on beers. Note: As the base beer for this beer is a Kolsch, this beer will remain in the Kolsch style.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for this one in trade. It is the kolsch that tastes a hefe. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is very pleasant: bread, ripe banana, yeast, esters, and floral hops with some sweet lemon peel. Flavor is light citrus, lemon, banana, yeast, and some dryness in the back. This is a polite, how-do-you-do beer that gently and politely introduces itself. Light, flavorful, and summer-loving. Sessionable as hell. I could drink the heck out of this beer.

6/25/11. 12oz bottle courtesy Cavie! Clouded yellow pour with a frothy off-white head that sticks. Light banana and citrus aroma with a mild flavor of banana, cream, and light grains. Quite nice and drinkable.

From bottle. (The beer was popular enough that they are now marketing six packs of it.) Pours cloudy pale yellow with small white head. Interesting and very different from the original Lawnmower. Tastes like a kolsch and hefeweizen combined. Is still crisp, tart, and refreshing, but now also has fruit esters and peppery clove. I was never much of a fan of Lawnmower. This is superior in flavor and drinkability.

Cloudy look, light yellowish color, decent to thin white head. The smell is hay, banana, yeast, fruits, and some clove. The taste is much the same as the smell but more subtle. You get more of the kolsch feel in the feel and taste. Interesting beer.

bottle from market street frisco. poured hazy yellow with a nice white head that lasted the life of the beer. aroma was citrus, banana, and maybe some slight clove. flavor was much the same, but seemed to have a slight pepper note in there. body was light and crisp with high carbonation. Not a bad twist to the lawnmower.

12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy yellow with thick white head. Aroma of citrus, some banana, hay, wheat and has notes of toasted corn. Flavor is the same. Mouthfeel is soft with high carbonation. Overall, solid brew!

Bottle, from the first bottled release. Pours an extremely hazy, almost cloudy, gold-yellow with a white whipped-cream head that leaves copious lace. Nose is banana, papaya, white pepper, and honey. Taste has some weizen elements to it, but is dryer and more citrusy than I expect. It’s good, finishes clean, but there is a lingering heaviness to it that I think detracts from the original Lawnmower beer. Interesting.

Hazy and yellow, with a substantial white head that laces generously. Aroma of grass, yeast, citrus and some spice. The taste is more like a hefe than a kolsch, with a bit of spice and fruit, and a bit more fullness to the flavor. Medium body. Not bad at all, much better than the regular Lawnmower. I’d call it a successful experiment. Quite good as a summer offering.

A very intresting spin of their fancy lawnmower. Their is a nice citrus flavor to it but still has a nice crisp finish.

On tap at Anvil way back when I took notes on it. Hazy hay colored pour with white head. Funky, grass forward nose...touch of barnyard....great nose actually. Flavor isn’t quite what the nose is, and mouthfeel is rather flat. Some floral and citrus notes, but doesn’t live up to what the aroma promises. Nice to taste this side by side with the Lawnmower. Fun experiment to enjoy.
