The first release in our Moveable Yeast series, Weedwacker is the result of our pitching Lawnmower wort (wort is the unfermented beer) with Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast. Weedwacker will be available draft only. This is a study in how different yeasts have different effects on beers. Note: As the base beer for this beer is a Kolsch, this beer will remain in the Kolsch style.

Side by side with the Fancy Lawnmower at the Fort Worth Gingerman. Aroma is slightly more spicy, but pretty much the same. Taste adds some banana and juicyfruit feeling.

Tap at the Gman FW courtesy of Melissa. Tried in tandem with the Lawnmower. Clear gold color with a creamier head than the original. Aroma is a spicy fruit. Big banana nose. Very big. Flavor remains pretty fruity. Lots of banana still with some lemon-lime flavoring. Lots more flavor than the original. I like it!

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2010 (draught at Addison saucer) cloudy yellow-orange appearance with a film of white bubbles. Nose of clove, mild banana, and bready. Taste of clean banana esters, mild spicy clove, very little citrus to this one, bready, bubblegum and nicely sweet. Semi-dry finish, bready and creamy palate linger. Tastes really like a German hefe indicative of its yeast strain used. Despite the lack of wheat, and the only real thing missing from categorizing this as a hefe, it tastes much more like one than a kolsch.

A very unusual beer to say the least. Faint nose of esthers. Looks like a wit or light hefe. Taste is like that of a very dry hefe. Very nice.

Tap at brewery.
Pours an average cloudy yellow with an aroma of buttery clove and banana. Flavor is watery and sweet clove with an earthy banana finish. Watery mouthfeel. Too subtle and restrained.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a cloudy yellow gold with a medium creamy white head that lasts awhile. The aroma is a stronge clove and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with the yeast upfront with clove and light citrus with a nice dry finish. A unique take on the lawnmower, a great Kolsch from Sai t Arnold.

its like he’s getting his ass kicked by a ghost...
There was really something to this beer..
Pours a cloudy sunset banana..
light lacing, typical hefe head on the pour but dies down to a well spotted pool..
10:46, get a watch that works...
Light light grass, light banana, and empty spice rack in the nose..
light mouthfeel, has that kolsch refreshment and that touch, that twist of esters..
its an interesting experiment, its similar to an american wheat basically..
happy to have had my two 22oz glasses...
you gotta walk before you can crawl..
reverse that...

Pour is bright yellow and is slightly hazed with a thin and bright white head...clove and banana comes screaming out of the glass...tons of banana, very interesting...just incredibly estery...the yeast flavor just dominated the mouth as well...this has the upfront flavor of a nice kristal weiss...perhaps a bit spicier...the disappointment with taking a non-wheat beer and tricking the palate into thinking it is a wheat beer, is that it can’t conceal the thinner body...I can’t really complain about it being thin like it is a bad thing though...interesting beer though.

Saint Arnold’s Weedwhacker, cloudy light yellow, slight banana aroma, thin white lacing, light sweetness, very low bitterness, light bodied, thin texture, interesting twist on the lawnmower.
