grandet (300), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 15, 2008 Bottle. Thanks Zinister. Dark brown pour with a tan color head. Aroma is roasted coffee. Nice roasted coffee taste, but was very smooth. Not bad at all.
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 lb4lb bought me this round. The aroma is fairly fruity with light chocolate and roast notes. Get a pretty good dose of nose tickling co2 as well. The body is a ruby hued black and holds a nice looking, finger thick, tan head that is most lasting, but leaves little lace. Very concentrated roasted malt, bitter dark and sweet milk chocolate, a hint of coffee and a dose of dark fruits that leans to ripe blueberry. This taste much better than I would have guessed from the low score. A bit thin, but not unforgivably so and this is much assuaged by a very tasty flavor profile. Vastly underrated this one. ketchepillar (242), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Jun 30, 2008 Very tasty caramel malts. The whole malt profile is light for a stout; no robust burnt flavors. A bit watery though. dchmela (660), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy lb4lb. Thin black pour with a barely perceptible light tan head. Light roasty grain, chocolate malt aroma. Chocolate malt and roasty grain taste, but much thinner than I thought it would be. Very easy drinking cold weather stout. sliffy (1950), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 7, 2008 Bottle shared by ogglethorp: Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma, caramel, some apples. Flavor, caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, some coffee, kinda boring. kramer (1857), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 7, 2008 12 oz bottle, via lb4lb. Pours a clear mahogany brown body, rather light in color for a Stout. Nice fizzy foamy one inch light brown head. The nose is as nutty and toasty as it is roasty with a slight hint of fruitiness. The flavor is dry chalky toasted malt with a lighter accent of roast and weak-brewed coffee. Some fruitiness mid swallow and a touch of plum on the finish before the cocoa powder and caramel laced finish sets in. Mouthfeel is fairly thin and watery with a touch too much fizzy carbonation, which only re-enforces the thin body. Overall, this is really pretty borderline on the Stout style. This almost fits in better with Brown Ales.
