GregClow (2318), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2007 Bottle shared with mds, HogTownHarry, blankboy and tupalev - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Foam explodes out of the bottle as it’s opened - not a good sign. Very dark body, with a big tan head that shrinks quickly. Big roasty aroma with some odd sour milk notes. Medium body. Flavour - hmmm, not sure what I think - there are some nice chocolate and malted milk notes, but there’s also that sour/lactic edge that I don’t really dig. tupalev (2285), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 13, 2007 Bottle shared with Mds, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Gregclow, courtesy of Harry. Black, decent sized head. Used motor oil aroma, sour milk, weird. Taste - malty, roasty, funky, some hops. Musty. Weird, off, or not good? I have no idea, I just know I do not want tto have it again. blankboy (2562), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 10, 2007 Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & mds -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of motor oil (seriously!), lightly roasted dark malt and faint chocolate. Flavour’s malty, lightly roasty along with some oil and faint chocolate. Light to average bodied. A somewhat odd, weak Stout -- just decent. mds (2111), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2007 Bottle. Black body with a smallish brown head.
Grape skin aroma with some strange raisin sweetness and faint chocolate.
Tastes different, grainy kind of toasty flavour, finishes with chocolate and creamy raisin flavours.
Sparkling carbonation. Kind of strange and weak in many respects. I wouldn’t want much more than a small sample. HogTownHarry (3174), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2007 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, mds and tupalev - my bottle. Gusher. Poured black with a huge but dimnishing frothy light brown head. Dry, floral/herbal aroma, quite lactic - almost but not quite sour - and light sweet roast malt underneath. The taste was light chocolate milk-like malt, minty floral hops - light in every way, really. Fizzy and mildly acidic, lightning-fast finish, no aftertaste. Pretty ehh - way too light, and frankly, where’s the roast? This was more like choc milk with some bitterness than a stout.
