3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gr0ve (2039) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 10, 2010
750 ml bottle. Deep reddish copper. Clear. Small off-white fine laced head. Spicy nose with Belgian yeast characters. Notes of caramel and a little chocolate. Crisp hoppy bitterness in the finish. High carbonation level. Peppery flavours. A little light in the aftertaste, but otherwise a nicely drinkable rich Belgian-style Christmas beer.

Pours clear bright mahogany into a trappist glass. Off-white head quickly recedes to nothing. Hot toasted caramel and roasted nut aromas. Slick and sweet from front to back with a lasting alcohol burn.

Bottle from Cave à Bulles. Hazy ruby red colour. Complex spicy nose followed by cinnamon and other spices as well as berry flavours. Well-balanced, hints of sourness. Very accomplished- the spices augment rather than distract.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 DeanF (1551) - Nunavut, CANADA - NOV 27, 2010
Light amber colour with a fair amount of head. Aroma of tin, malt, alcohol. Taste is very malty with a hint of grass. Has a watery finish and a planty aftertaste. I imagine this is an attempt at a Bière de Garde of some disposition, but it doesn’t quite work.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MrChopin (2527) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - NOV 24, 2010
Dark amber, light bubbly white wisps. Nose is soft, cidery, lots of apple, yeast, and peach sweetness. Very light, nutty flavor, bit spiced and green/metallic. Very nice, wonderfully soft like all BdG should be, and quite drinkable given the balance despite so many strong flavors.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 KnutAlbert (5186) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 22, 2010
Hazy brown beer, firm head, lovely spicy notes in the aroma. Christmas spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper, fine malt, some bitterness in the finish. Some cheating here suing the soices, perhaps, but a nice beer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thewolf (9888) - Kolding, DENMARK - NOV 12, 2010
Bottle, bought @ LIVA, Kolding.
Clear amber with a fine, medium, frothy, white head. Mild caramel aroma, some toasted notes, light earthy. Medium, but kinda prickly carbonation, fine mild creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good caramel as base, a hint of milky chocolate, a bit of piney and earthy hops. Red apples and a hint of cranberries. Mildly dry in the finish. Fine, elegant beer, even if doesn’t really break new ground.
