Some of these French beers are really good. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of honey. A medium bodied Biere de Garde. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Slightly sweet. A very drinkable. Goes great with a meal.

On tap @ Provisions Market. Orange pour with a nice white head. Nose has some sweet bread, sugar, and caramel notes. Candied apple, spicy hops, and a subtle nuttiness. Tastes quite sweet. Lots of sugar, caramel, and apple. Light fruitiness, maybe pear. Light hop flavor, some nuts, spice, and a slight cracker note on the finish.

On tap at Amundsen, Oslo. ABV was 6.9%. Ruby red colour, moderate off-white head. Nice aroma and flavour of Christmas spices, malts and caramel. Not too sweet, pleasant. Would buy again.

Bottle 33 cl, BBE 25.04.2014. Pours brown in color with a small head. Brown bread, some nuttyness and light metallic notes at first. Sweetish taste with some raisins, mudcake and dough. A bit one-sided perhaps, but otherwise quite tasty. Sweetish and slightly nutty in aftertaste.

75 cl bottle @ Timo A, BBE 03/2010
Aroma has malty notes typical to old beers. Also raisins and hints of cardboard. Flavour is rather malty with some metallic savor, some raisins and hints of metal. Quite well preserved, even though the taste is a bit short.

75 cl bottle @ Timo A. BBE 03/2010
Pours clear mahogany color with a small head, a bit lively. Aroma has quite a lot of ripe fruits, caramel malts, some mild spices and some yeast. Flavor is a bit watery, spices, caramel malts and ripe fruits, plums and raisins on the front, some distant berries also. Probably one of the best Biere de Gardes I’ve tasted, maybe they age well..

750 ml bottle, BBE 03/2010, thanks Timo A. Pours a cloudy amber colour with a white head. Aroma of caramel, plums and some bread. Flavour of caramel malts, bread, plums, peach, cheesecake and hay. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Very smooth and fruity brew. Aging seems to work with this beer.

An OK christmas beer. Pours with thin tan head, burgundy body. Malty bread aroma. On the palate balanced and soft, with a mere hint of carbonation. Raisin linger.

750ml bottle split with Anndiesel. Unfiltered burgundy brown. I really enjoy the subtle, delicate malt nuances of a French Bierre de Garde, and it is always a pleasure to try another. This one leans into Belgian Christmas Ale/WInter Warmer territory, with luscious amber malt tones, and some candied fruitcake flavors. Overall displays a great balance. A touch of bitter balancing bitterness up front leads toasty, clean malt finish, touches of raisin and cherry. Right on, a great Christmas beer.

Purchased from Carrefour in Steenvorde (petrol stop) and split with Leighton and Bruce in J98 LLY en route to Kortrijk. Lightly hazed dark amber with a big frothy biege head that retains well. Nose is toffee, yeast, clove, banana, spice. Taste comprises yeasts, toffee, light spice, brown sugars, touch of booze, hint of smoke. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. Ok stuff.

Chestnut-hued rust. Persistent creamy eggshell foam holds beautifully. Refined almond skin and breadcrust maltiness comprises the aromatically malty nose. Equally pleasant suggestions of sponge cake, sassafras, black tea, candied fennel seed, plum jam, and puttylike yeast. Soft carbonation. Fully malty, initially, with a luscious plum jam punch laced with deep poundcake girth and a finespun cookie firmness. Endlessly deep malts yield a plethora of bouncy, mouthwatering vanilla-kissed melonoidins which provide a sturdy foundation and buttress the captivatingly lustrous esters. Explosive Special-B-like character partly succumbs to the medicinal tackiness and considerable alcoholic warmth. Otherwise very mineralic and clean. Scratchy yeast and fallen leaves displace some of the sugars as they combine with the daintier nut skin malt to lend delicateness and rusticity which immediately beckon you for another sip. Expertly polished shades of cookielike malt line the well-rounded malt-centric finish. This is borderline cloying, but nonetheless it’s a rather exquisite malt showcase. Love this brewery.
