75 cl swingtop bottle. Cloudy orange yellow, foamy white head slowly settles and lingers. Aroma is yeasty and fruity. Spritzy and bitter, odd earthy yeasty taste, semi sweet fruitiness, mild malts and spice. Lively carbonation, light-medium bodied, low hopped. This brew is kinda funked up, I’m not digging the barnyard thing. Slightly acidic and vionous towards the finish. Pass. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle at home. The colour is golden straw and has a medium, off-white head. Aroma of citrus, hay, Belgian yeast and some spices. The flavour is slightly sour with a touch of citrus and pleasant spices. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A fresh and well-balanced ale. Nice.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 75cl bouteille from Cellier des Arcades, Arras. Pours a hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma has a lot of rich pale malts and not much else. Flavour has a good deep malt body, with grassy hops in the finish and lingering dry yeast characters. Feels light but the booze can hit a man hard at the end of a long day of travelling. Worth checking out but not the best Biere de Garde I’ve had on this trip.

Very good beer. Tastes like a saison, dry and bitter. Herbs and grass. Nice exemple of this beerstyle.

75cl bottle. Hazy golden, fluffy white head. Hayish hoppy, grainy malty aroma, slight citric fruitiness and mint. Grainy, dry malty flavor, hayish hops, little alcohol in the finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth round carbonation. Simple but easy drinking and thirst quenching.

750 ml swing top bottle. A lightly hazy medium golden beer with an average sized, frothy, mostly diminishing white head. Interesting and very balanced aroma, moderately malty, lightly to moderately hoppy and lightly yeasty. There are notes of biscuits, bread, grass, honey, spices (mainly pepper) and lemon. The flavour is moderately sweet, lighty sour, lightly bitter. Very bready, almost chewy. Nice spicey hints, clean. Medium body, lively carbonation, long finish with medium bitterness, lightly alcoholic. Very enjoyable.

Hazy, medium golden body with a small, frothy, white head that is quite short-lived and leaves a decent amount of lacing on my plastic cup(!). I find rating aroma outdoors extremely difficult, but it would be impolite to go indoors and leave my BBQ guests in the garden, so I remain seated and try to catch some scents from the before mentioned plastic cup, while the wind blows and the fumes from the grill try to trick my nose. The aroma is moderate to light (but then again, the lack of intensity might be due to outdoor rating), with pale malts, fruits and yeast. Moderate to light sweet taste with some acidity and a moderate bitter finish. The flavours are far more complex than the aroma, confirming that I shouldn’t be allowed to judge the aroma outdoors: Fruits (with faint banana), spices, yeast, perfume, herbs, resin, honey and some alcohol in the form of white wine notes. The finish is quite alcoholic, but it still feels fairly well integrated. Medium body, dry to oily texture, soft carbonation. A good one!
[75 cl bottle, shared with Rikke, Tor, Gunnvor, Anders and the Missus, enjoyed after the palate has taken some serious beating by several drinks and various BBQ dishes]

Klar gul med lavt hvitt skum. Sitronskall og humlelukt. Veldig bitter start som forsvinner litt for fort.
