Bottle conditioned.

Noctilucus (106) - All over Belgium, BELGIUM - JUN 28, 2012
Hazy amber with fine white foam. A nose of sharp spices (cfr. clove), refreshing with some hops underneath but mostly it’s the spices that dominate. Taste: that same spice, fermented honey (so little sweetness), lingering but mellowed in the aftertaste by malts, a bit more sweetness from the sugars or perhaps whatever’s left from the honey that didn’t ferment. Also a hint of alcohol and its accompanying warmth. Really not my thing though it’s an original take that’s probably better suited for fans of sharper, slightly bitter beers. The aftertaste agrees with me better as it’s more rounded out even if it’s still not very full. This is the most spicy and sharpest honey ale I’ve had so far and also the least smooth. It has character but it’s not my preference.

Reddish brown colour, dissipating white head. Aroma of malts, honey, licht apricot, quite herbal, touches of rooibos. Sweet flavour, honey, caramel, light bitter, light roasted malts. Quite sticky. Light alcohol. Short finish with pronounced honey.
Not bad, but a bit cloying.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before Dec 2012, drank as my third beer, but first of four honey flavoured beers on ’a random Belgian tasting evening’ with the wife during late Nov 2010. Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru stemmed tulip glass. The beer is a golden honey colour, bright and clear. On top a lovely white cap of foam. The aroma was of sweetness and light honey smells, as was the taste. The body was a lttle on the thin side, but the honey flavours stayed into the aftertaste reminding you this is a honey beer. Different and well made, equally as good as the popular BarBar in my eyes (the third honey beer of the night).

Bottle @ home. Muddy, murky yellow color with a small white head. Smell and taste lightly malty, sweetness, some fruits, slight bitterness towards the end. Little bit fizzy carbonation, medium body though relatively thin texture.

A hazed to turbid amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, loads of honey, cardboard, orange pulp, cloying. In mouth, a sweet maderized malt with honey, light herbal hops, a bit roasted, warming alcohol. so-so. Bieropholie import.

KyotoLefty (7540) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 21, 2011
bottle from Asao. Aroma of green apples, plum, citrus, honey. Warm, fruity, and somehow dry. Very cloudy dark amber with a super fine, firm head. Smooth and fruity, with honey and bready malts, apples, plum, raisin. Very sweet at the finish, with so e grassy hops but vert low bitterness. Interesting and tasty, with a touch of tartness and some alcohol to try to balance. Nice, but a bit too sweet.
