3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
It pleases me greatly that slowly but surely, more and more breweries are opening up in Florida. And not just generic, run-of-the mill breweries. Instead, we are talking import and craft inspired breweries who strive to push the craft brew scene to new heights of inspiration. Today’s topic of enjoyment for me is the Saint Somewhere Brewing Company located in Tarpon Springs. They have two beers available, their Lecto Divinia and their Saison Athene. Both are Belgian-style ales with Lecto Divinia being a traditional Belgian ale and Saison Athene a Belgian Saison, or farmhouse ale. Being a fan of both brew styles, by random chance I am partaking of the Saison Athene first. A third batch brew, from my understanding, she is vastly improved and perfected when compared to the first. When it comes to newer breweries, fine-tuning a beer over multiple batches is a given.
My Saison Athene poured a brightly gilded orange into my chalice, crowned by a dense head of soft white foam which fades into a thin layer. Lace spots the sides while an enticing aroma works her way to my nose. Oranges and spice with orange skin and sour notes brighten my day. There really is nothing like a bright, fresh, citric infused yeasty Belgian Saison to bring a smile to my face. To further explore her glorious splendor, I delve into a rich, frothy, and softly chewy body which immediately hits me with sweet citrus and oranges followed up by tart sour dough and yeast. A lingering spice nips at my tongue while some coriander comes out to play. A coating mouthfeel carries her body long into multiple quaffs, compounding enjoyment and discovery upon enjoyment and discovery. A pleasing dryness in my mouth grows slowly as my Saison Athene’s palate grows ever more tart and citric with notes of grapefruit sneaking in to play. As I finish my glass with tears of joy and pride in my eye, one final kiss of peppery spice and coriander bids me farewell to this fine tribute of a Belgian Saison.
If Saint Somewhere is where Florida breweries have come to, then that is quite fine with me and far more need to follow suit and push their own boundaries of craft and import inspired brewing. Supposedly, Saint Somewhere’s brewmatser is currently working on his third beer for his small yet giant brewery, and I am definitely looking forward to giving it multiple tastings. It is the least I can do, after all.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Exira Beer Summit IV. Thanks to adnielsen for bringing the bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange color with white head. Floral, funky, chamomile aromas. Funky, floral, yeasty, dusty flavors. I’m usually not a big chamomile fan, but this was pretty good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ Nielsen Exira Beer Summit IV. Thanks to Dr. Owl for sending! Pours a hazy yellow orange appearance with a nice white head. Quite spicy and floral, potpourri, orange blossom, a bit peppery, somewhat funky, barnyard aroma. The floral element in particular is somewhat reminiscent of Trinity Oh Face Saison. A bit juicy, strong lemon/mango/pineapple fruity, white floral, fruit bretty, grassy, funky flavor with a fair amount of potpourri and spicy yeast on the finish. Pretty tasty.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours very well into the glass, it has a very dark banana yellow color that completely blocks out all light. There is very little head to the beer and no lacing on the glass. The scent of the beer is a bouquet of floral notes, corriander, peppery spice, citrus, and a crisp green apple scent. The taste is much of the same, you get a floral taste with a pepper, corriander flavor with a bitter citrus finish, a great blend. The mouthfeel is very clean and crisp, even though there was no head, you definitely can feel the carbonation in your mouth. Overall, this is a great saison and highly recommended.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml from Pint Defiance. Opens with a loud pop, but stays in the bottle until poured. Cloudylight gold with a ppersistent, medium white head. Nose is quite spicy and funky. Medium-light body with fine, prickly carbonation. Orange peel, coriander, strong saison farm funk and some oak. A bit of booziness creeping in as it warms, along with some pepper and lemon zest. Prefer the lighter aromas of a Stillwater or JP, but quite good and I will seek oit other Somewhere offerings.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Une belle complexité florale et rustique habite cette saison plutôt facile à boire. Le côté sauvage est très discret, habile conception.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Circa 2006 bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold color with a medium fluffy white head that recedes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, spice and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of peppery yeast, biscuit malt and ripe fruit. The finish is slightly funky with an herbal yeast aftertaste. Think it fell off a bit with age, but decent overall.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours hazy golden with a small, off-white head. Aroma of spices especially chamomile and rosemary plus some light fruits, caramel and pale malts, and floral hops. The pepper is present in the flavor, but this beer is dominated by the other spices, and I don’t know if that’s a good thing. Average texture. Not bad, but not the best.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
After almost blowing my eye out with the cork that shot off as I was untwisting the cage, I get a huge white head that is slow to fade. Plenty of lacing. Cloudy amber color. Flowery pepper aroma. Taste is a spicy flavor of rosemary and flowers. Not bad.
