3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of BeerandBlues2, thank you sir! Hazy dark brown color, thick brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of coffee grounds. Taste starts with riasty coffee and cocoa, then a barnyard funkiness that doesn’t quite mesh. Near miss, I would say.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Almost black pour with a khaki head. Peppery and roasty nose. Some hints of vinegar, lots of anise, grass, and grape. Quite dry, maybe a little tea. Nice aroma. The flavor is a little less impressive. Very roasty and acetic. Grape soda, pepper, black tea, and lots of grass. Fairly dry and very highly carbonated.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 c&c from Wine & Cheese. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is a bit winey/woody. A dry astringent grape aroma. Med + body. Flavor is winey/grapey with something suggesting a soap, some wood, definitely some earth. There’s some dark maltiness, and some tartness. To me this is something out of a red wine barrel, tho apparently it has never seen wood. Finishing dry, earthy/woody, red berry fruity, and something herbal? The back of the bottle exclaims mysterious. Got that right. I’m really liking the contrasting, mixed flavors.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
750mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of rye malt, some dark spices, mild farmhouse notes, and herbally bready notes. Flavour is fairly acetic, with a chemical quality, rye bready, some balsamic vinegar, metallic notes, and loads of weird musty notes - very bizarre. Black saisons are usually a big miss for me, and this is one of the poorer attempts I’ve had. Not good at all - haven’t been impressed by this brewery at all.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a hazy dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good to excellent lacing. Moderate dark herbal and yeast aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where met.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A hazed dark brown saison with a thick collapsing mocha head. In aroma, very herbaceous and grassy malt with bitter chocolate, light Brett, dirt, interesting. In mouth, a nice fruity sour chocolate with light lactic points, Brett, foliage, off but in a nice way.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle… Pours a cloudy burnt-caramel with a mid-sized, off-white head. The nose is malty and fruity. Medium-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor is tangy and roasty with a subtle cherry component. A bit bland overall. Finishes lightly bitter and fruity. Overall, a touch mundane. Nothing wrong. Technically great. Just falls short in flavor and body. Bob is a great brewer, but his stuff is too subtle for me. Not a bad thing. I’m into all things “extreme.” Saint Somewhere is the brewery for you if you’re into “almost.”
