Drank with Rik 27-11-2014 while watching The Hunger Games I. (Originally thought it was the EU version, bought the beer in Belgium, but it’s 10% ABV so it’s this version I guess). I liked the beer. An okay Barley Wine, liked it. Good body and penetrating aroma. Nice sweet, typical Barley Wine taste, brown sugar and fruits. One think I liked less: the ’woodiness’ of the taste, especially the aftertaste. Did not find that very pleasant, it was too strong and did not combine well with the other tastes.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours clear copper with a few bubbles. Aroma of mild fruits and brown sugar. It’s a clean, penetrating aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is treacle that persists and makes it hard to dissect the base flavors. Maybe brown sugar more than treacle. It has a woodiness. A berriness. I’m not really getting heat as an impact, maybe as a flavor. Rather mouth smacking. It’s not dry, but I’m tempted at each quaff to think dry. Nice ale here.

Stort set uden skum og kun meget lidt kulsyre. Lidt plumret gullig brun uklar farve med små rester af gær. Afdæmpet duft med sødme. Klassisk sødlig barley wine smag med let bitterhed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Poured medium-golden with a toasted marshmallow head.. some light sediment suspended in there. The aroma picked up dish soap and acetone on the first hit (not really what I was looking for), with green apple skins and light peppery notes following.. not good. The flavor came across a little better, but not much.. mostly lighter-skinned fruits with some apples standing out on the middle.. peppery alcohol and medicinal notes on the grainy edges.. finished tart and belly-warming. Medium-plus bodied with fairly high carbonation on the palate.. OK flow through the palate.. I didn’t much care for this.

Bottle. Pours hazy, dark amber with average, creamy white head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is floral hops, cookie and bread malts, booze, spicy and floral hops, and light apples. Flavor is dry, bready malts forward with supporting floral hops, some fruit esters, yeast, and light booze; dry, bready finish. Medium/full body and low carbonation.

Bottle shared by Travlr. Pours lightly hazy amber with a medium, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is fruity and perfume hops with biscuit and honey malt and floral hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and carbonation.

Bottle. Hazy golden amber color, small white head. Aroma of lemon, pineapple, rising sourdough bread. Taste is smooth tropical fruit and white bread. Very nice.

Hazy dirty dark amber with hundreds of tiny floaters, light head cover and no lace. The taste starts with sweet malt, cut by prunes and ginger; that is abruptly shoved aside by noticeable warm alcohol and slightly bitter carbonation. The lingering finish recovers the spiced malt. An unusual Barley Wine. Very good for sipping, but more than one would be a bit much.

Amber pour. Fruity aroma, slightly herbal. Flavor is berry-like, sweet, very sweet. Overall too sweet of a beer considering the abv. It is tasty though.
