COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited release using Brewers Gold and Strisselspalt hops. 60 EBU / 37,5cl bottle.

The US version is called Antipode and is 10% ABV.

Bottle. After opening I lost almost half of the bottle, it just exploded. Dark copper, white minimal head. In aroma fruits - peach, berries, caramel. In taste sweet with same notes, overly carbonated, unpleasant on the palate. Full bodied. In overall there are far better barley wines, this beer is not worth money I spent.

On special at the Delirium cafe for 6?; debatably past its prime. It pours hazy opaque mahogany with light brown highlights, with huge yeast clumps in it; the head is caramel coloured and foamy. The aroma has notes of: caramel, burnt sugar, prunes, and a slight clove note. The taste is medium bitter with a little sweetness; there are notes of: coffee, rum, orange zest, cereal, sour wine, and crackers. The palate is medium bodied and has very light carbonation; has a very stark astringency, and medium finish. Overall, the beer was old, but cheap - still reasonably tasty.

Pours a slightly cloudy light brown beer with a medium beige head. Smells of hop, malty and a bit spicy, some sweet malts, light touch of alcohol also. Tastes sweet. Leaves a nice gentle bitter/sweet palate. Mouth feel is big and a bit alcoholic. Really nice barley wine!

Deep ruby-tinted amber and copper coloured body with only a thin, oily and large-bubbled tan head. Aroma of some light brett, bunches of malt and only a bit of sugars from caramel and light fruit - none of the deep pit fruit and complex sugars usually associated with the style. Full-bodied; Rich sweet malt flavour with an earthy vibe and a lot of unfinished caster sugar and apricot tastes along with a hint of grapes and a good hit of alcohol on the finish. Aftertaste shows a lot of sugars with malt and some light fruit noticeable, but not complex at all. Overall, a decent barley wine with some good flavours, but nothing like a complex english or american barley wine - this is more simplistic and sweet, but a decent option if looking for something stronger here in Belgium. I sampled this funny shaped 37,5 cL bottle purchased from Delices & Caprices in Bruxelles, Belgium on 14-August-2013 for €4,00 sampled at home in Washington after just returning from another trip to the Belgian capital on 25-January-2015.
