Schiuma abbondante, compatta e persistente.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2012 Updating the rating 03/04/2012, several draft at Delirium, holy hell they have improved the original batches, huge malt moka/cofee nose with nice US hop bouquet coming through. At 4.3%, this is divine. Rest of rating is similar to my previous statement, amazing brew. Draft @ Moeder Lambic, Fontainas. Cheers to ML for making this ltd beer available, and to Sainte Helene for brewing yet another awesome session beer. I hope they continue brewing these small batches of original beers. After the Simcoe Lager this is just another great treat. This is a nice little stout that should be made more widely available in the Belgian stout wasteland. Note herbacée, malt grillé/cara allant vers le torréfié.

Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Called Citra Stout there. Dark red/brown coloured with a small beige head. Aroma is citrus hops, slightly herbal, bit of coffee, bitter chocolate. Taste is very malty, slightly spicy, gingerbread maybe. Nice bitter finish. Not what I would expect from a Belgian beer, but very nice.

Bottle: Medium sized vast and slowly changing brown head on top of a pitch black beer colored beer Looks really good! Aromas of coffee, roasted malts, hops, coffee roast, light citrus, bit like a deep roasted black IPA. Smells good! Flavours of coffee, coffee roast, chalk, bitter but smooth, floral and hops, roasted bay leaf, bitters, roasted barley mats and some citrus, some spices, some earth. Very good for such low alcohol. Aftertate is of some bitters, roast and cofee and a light chalky spice tone. Low to lightly more carbo, soft tingly mouthfeel, good medium to lightly fuller body and a creamy texture with a watery sprinkle. Very good beer, balanced, good roast, low abv, could drink this all night!

Bottle @ ansjelah. Today’s reason for a beer is her sister’s birthday. Pitch black with medium brown head. Smells fresh coffee, roasty, dark chocolate, quite lovely. Tastes chocolate, nesquick, roasty, coffee.. Lovely brew. Strong taste even though it has such low abv. Medium body, soft carbo, silky.

A low-abv citra stout from Belgian? Well that certainly raises the bar. It looks really well, for a start, with black body and voluptuous beige head. Lots of roasted malts, coffee, touch of rye and sweet hops. Drinks smoother and lighter than expected, but with a sharp bitter edge, like cacao. Very full for a 4.5% beer. So yes, a very successful experiment if you ask me. (75cl bottle from Dranken Geers)

AROMA : strong chocolate, toffee and coffee, med vanilla subtil nuts, roasty raisin from the malt part / floral, citric, lemongrass and subtil orange peel and pine from the hops part. some smokey leather and woody notes. APPEARANCE : Strong dark/black with subtil foam line. Not its strongest asset. TASTE : is well balaced, dry sweet with strong bitterness and little coffee/chocolate acidity. PALATE is a bit disapointing for the density, but goes with the style. medium body, thin and oily feel, soft carbonation, but long finish that makes room for more toffee, curaçao and spicy gingerbread. OVERALL : Great approach of the stout style. Big fan of Black IPA so... Served in Tulip glass from 33cl refrigerated bottle. Got better with the temperature rising.

25 cl. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic: Honestly to god I had never heard of either this brewery or this beer before seeing it on the guest tap list – It is a interesting one since save for a handful breweries pretty much no one makes stouts in Belgium, a very slight increase has been noticeable lately & one that has a special hop thing going on at that – It is probably far to early to say that the American craft beer culture is beginning to seep deeper into Belgian brewing culture? – It is dark brown, slight black with a tanned/mocha-kind of head – Smell is surprisingly sweet citrus hops followed by roasted coffee, almost a contradictory combination because you are clearly getting to separate parts but a nice on eat that – Taste is first sweet lemon candy, almost lemon meringue, lots of slightly sweet lemon & citrus hops followed by a brief pause & separately freshly roasted coffee, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, very sharp, bitter, freshly grounded coffee, just quite yet not going into ash territory – Medium roasted malt, stout body – Somewhat contradictory beer but in a very lovely way, tastes a bit like very good homebrew which I kind of suspect this basically is
