1997 750mL. Pours a very rosy orange. Light yellows and almost a pink hue to it. Good amount of sediment. Fleeting white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of cheese, cheese and more cheese. Wow, is this beer brewed with blue cheese??? Amazing. Very funky, lots of serious yeast, blue cheese, bacteria (which creates the cheesy smell), and some very faint ripe fruit notes. Flavor is heavily funky, more cheese, no trace of the hallertauers, dont taste the ginger either. Has a soft, round body, medium and somewhat oxidized. Very good for being this old though. Balance is wonderful. Tends to the sweet side, but not overly so, with a drier yeast flavor coming on in the finish. A bit of residual spice is felt, though it has dulled out quite a bit I would imagine. Wonderful and different. I will be buying the 96 vintage next time I go shopping. 9/5/8/5/18
1995 750mL Glad I got to try this, as I will have had the 95 and 97 with the 96 in my cellar. All of the sour, spoiled fruits and funky, acidic lactobacillus, heavily aged hops and tart citrus in the nose. Flavor is full of cheese, musty barnyard notes, old sour oranges, spoiled grapefruits, more rhubarb and light cider. For a 10 year old beer, this stuff is remarkable. Medium body, good amount of oxiadation, but not overly so/more than expected. Very soft carbonation, but it is still present. Oily mouthfeel. I think, for my tastes, that I preferred this stuff 6 years old instead of 10, but it is still fantastic, IMHO. 8/5/8/4/17. Score is an average of the two years.
1996 bottle drunk 3/29/14. 18 years old!!!
Somewhat of an aged sample here, haha. Was very much expecting to take a sip and pour the rest out....But no, actually, the cork comes off with a big pop and we get a nice clear amber liquid with a large white head that recedes to cover. Ginger, light amber malts, lactic acid, bits of orange peel and nice esters.
Moment of truth....and it tastes....NOT BAD! Haha, wow, definitely can feel its age with plenty of light sherry notes, some wateriness to the body and some strong metallic notes. But the lactic acid, light amber maltiness and spices still make for a reasonably drinkable beer. Writing this review as I’m drinking it and letting it breath, and it’s actually gaining strength and depth. Beer is one hell of a mysterious and amazing beverage! May have to kick the score up just a touch because of how well this stuff has aged. I should probably try a bottle that isn’t 6-18 years old...

Bottle. Hazy dark amber pour with thin pure white head. Aroma of grassy hops, light earthy bretty notes, kind of like orval, grainy, black pepper. Taste is grassy, light acidity, orange peel, citrus. Palate is med bodied, medium carbonation, average sweetness. Original and nice, fun to taste what saison might have tasted like before it became what it is today.

Aroma of tobacco, caramel, honey and flowers. Taste is a little salty; quite sour and particularly dry.

Taster on draft. Clear golden pour. Hay and wet horse blanket, like it was brewed in the barn... Funky! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 16, 2014 750 ml bottle @ Tuulensuu
Golden yellow to orange clear beer which becomes hazy with the yeast poured in. Makes little white head. Aroma is mostly sweet anise, not my thing. Flavor has anise, malts with little sourness. Finish is short with some bitterness. Palate is medium full with light carbonation. I don’t know much about saisons but to me the anise doesn’t fit and I’d prefer a heavier hopping. Still a decent brew with dinner (spinach omelette @ Tuulensuu).

@ Party Source / Bellvue KY - Cloudy bright copper with a head that drops to the rim, a few dots of lace. Taste is malt that is quickly obliterated by a tart, sour, acidic citrus, and a hint of pepper and ginger that carries to the finish. It is different (perhaps that is the Wallonian?), but not quite as drinkable as traditional brews, or even traditional lambics and guezes. It is its own breed - drinkable, but not one I prefer.

0.75l bottle. Clear amber body, off-white head. The aroma is like the air of a wine cellar with some champagne, apple and orange peel. Taste of toast and cherry. The texture is silky. Interesting beer, I like it.
