3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JAN 26, 2011
750 ml from Tanakaya. Aroma of lichen, earthy amber malts, grass, barnyard funk, minerals. Medium amber witha kow, lacy, pretty head. Fruity, funky, minerally falvor. Strange and interesting. strong tart edge, lichen, dust. nice dry fruitiness, citrus, unsweetened strawberry jam. interesting, but probably won’t become a favorite.

1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 JDBaker11058 (616) - Maryland, USA - JAN 4, 2011
Appearance: orange/brown with a tiny little head that vanished. Aroma: tangy, sour fruit (orange, raisins, green apple), and some spices (cinnamon, clove). Taste: sour fruit and must, moldy sweet-tart candies, with some old dried spices. Finish: lingering sour funk and tartness, a hint of alcohol sweetness. Notes: Did not care for this at all, and I really like a saison. Maybe the Wallonian style is different from the style I like; maybe I got an old bottle. I found this much more like a Flemish sour ale, with an almost completely flat palate. Not refreshing, and lousy flavor. Give me the Saison Dupont any day over this swill.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 rand (740) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 7, 2010
Bottle 33 cl from L’Antre du Vaudrée in Liège (B). Golden blond towards copper. Spicy nose, malty, tangy with key of licorice. The taste is soft and a little acidulous but light with a background of bitterness. Refreshing by its acidity, woody touch. Complex beer and festival of spices, cinnamon, pepper, orange, ginger. Final drier, grassy and long which asks again.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SamGamgee (2451) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JUL 22, 2010
75cl bottle. No date that I could find but bought recently at a store with high turnover, so probably relatively fresh stuff. Hazy orange (well, a light haze I guess) with a smallish white head that recedes to a ring of foam somewhat quickly. No the best retention, and light carbonation didn’t give this much of a head for a saison. Musty orange peel, ripe apple slices that have sat out and browned, dusty yeast, under-ripe apricots, and some almost savory, zippy spices in the aroma. The flavor is very lightly sweet up front and dried quickly with an almost medicinal spiced finish and some lightly bitter fruit pith. Touch of apple juice as well as faint hops. A little musty and funky. Light tartness in the finish and a medium-light body with carbonation that you could say the same about. Some interesting bright fruity notes in the aroma. Likable but a little rough around the edges.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 oteyj (1753) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 13, 2010
Slightly opaque amber pour with a one finger offwhite head. The aroma is fruity, floral spice notes including ginger, clove, and citrus. A bit of graininess comes through, as does some mild nectar fruit. The flavor is dry and grainy with a great deal of acidity. Citrus, dough, cereal grains, flowers, white grape juice, and spice round out the arrangement. The palate is medium bodied with low effervescence and a semi dry finish. A bit one dimensional, but yummy and drinkable just the same.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Damico (1222) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 18, 2010
The aroma is a bit tarty and some sweet notes from that farmhouse style. The appearance is cloudy amber with an orange hue. The flavor has some zing to it, but so smooth. Don’t know why, but somehow tastes like an old school saison.
