Corked and capped 750. Hazy orange amber with a big white head. Lightly spiced nose, ginger and mild orange, somewhat woody and biscuity, mildly funky. Mildly dry. White sheet of lace. A bit of toastiness, particularly toward the bottom of the bottle. Nice stuff!

From a 750mL Bottle. Mostly transparent, copper colored body with a tall froth of rocky white head. Aromas of apple, orange, and ginger peak out from behind a rusty, musty backdrop. Notes of cork and a moderate pedio cheesiness. Light bodied, briskly carbonated mouthfeel with a thin texture. Dry finish, but the body lacks much texture. Flavors of apple and musky melon. The taste of iron comes through far too strong for my palate, giving it a dominating flavor of blood. Finishes mildly acidic with notes of bleu cheese. Not my thing. I recognize that this is a classic example of a historic style, but I just can’t warm up to it. Perhaps this is a reminder that some beer history is more of a romantic concept and the progress made over the few decades has been a wonderful thing.

Bottle Vintage Brewed 07/1994 Bottled in Jan 1995. Pours out a hazt copped with orange. No head. A little flat after 14 years. Aroma of spice orange and some sweet fruit. Tast of oxidation. But plenty sour and nice spice. A pretty nice brew. But I would say a little past it prime.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Bright orange/amber hazy pour with bubbly white head. Lovely to look at. Nose of honey, orange (peel), ginger, white pepper... pretty much all the notes on the description. Also notes of peaches and apricots and maybe some melon. A little musty/dank, but not in a bad way. Similar on the palate, with some more melon notes coming out, some malt presence, a sour funky hit near the end, and a crisp tart peppery acetic finish. Yum.

Bottle from PC Market of Choice in Eugene, OR. Amber color with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is slightly earthy with notes of sharp spice and light stone fruit. Medium body with lightly frothy carbonation. Flavor is slightly earthy with citrus zest and a fair amount of complicating fruit and spice. Dry. Might be ginger. There’s a lot going on here. I think I can detect the anise. Slightly woody as time goes on. A very drinkable ale.

Pours a golden-brown with a fizzy head. The aroma is a lot of fun... plenty of ginger and fruit, especially orange peel. The flavor didn’t quite deliver, but it certainly didn’t disappoint... very spicy and tart, but with sufficient wetness and mouthfeel to satisfy me. A nice, refreshing summer ale.
