Bottle @ The Front Door in Boise: Pours a hazy yellow color, nice thick white head and plenty of lacing. The nose is floral with skunky light hops and plenty of yeasty esters, some thick leather and citrus notes. Complex flavor along with a bright dry mouthfeel and a yeasty note. The finish is nice and balanced, dry, pleasant. Excellent traditional saison, lacking intensity and overall umami but good everywhere else.

750ml bottle, served in my NB snifter. Hazy marigold color with a 2-3 finger head, active carbonation, and varied sediment in the bottom of the glass. Aroma is lemon, earthy and spicy hops, grainy with wheat and rye characteristics but not exactly like either one, vanilla, and yeast. Initial taste is lemon and citrus, vanilla, yeast, sharp wheat followed by some strong earthiness which is very herbal, minerally, and spicy in the same way that rye is, and reminiscent of a barnyard. The finish is lingering spiciness and mild to moderate tartness. Mouthfeel is very full. Saison’s are quicly becoming one of my favorite styles, easy to drink but with an amazing depth of flavor, and the differences betwen them are amazing.

(Rating #1143)

in the bottle at beertopia shelton brothers sample night. pours a cloudy gold with a thick white head. beer has a yeasty, candy-like aroma. there’s a nice drying and slightly tart initial flavor, followed by a strong bolus of anise. this is a delicious beer with an awesome palate.

Very light golden yellow and heavily clouded. Aroma begins with a wild lactic sourness, eventually to fade into a more reserved mint fluoride and pear character. A bit of butterscotch sweetness. Tastes of candied cashews and lime zest at first. Then, with warmth, an exotic tide of golden kiwi and peach, washing softly over a gritty thickness of yeast. Finishes dry, earthy and sour. Loose in the mouth, lacking precision and direction. Disappointingly degenerative from its promising beginning. Others will do. Thanks Phil!
