3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 9, 2006
750-ml. bottle, 2004 vintage. Semi-translucent, pale and bright dulled yellow in color with a creamy, beady white foam head that retains well on top. Aroma has plenty of coriander and lemon zest, yielding bright crescent roll traits. Tangerines and guillotined wheat fields aromatically transpire to field mice trucking through French bakeries. Easy going flavor refreshment gives off candied lemon chews and subtly tart lemonheads. Dry, bitter front is amplified by coriander, later becoming a host of peels (lemon, lime, tangerine, etc.) Bittersweet synchronicity. Sea green and lemony tea leaves break the light candi barrier, while mild cotton seeds germinate freely. Effervescence meets up with spruced coriander and overpowers the light bakery sweetness. Green guava and mint leaves tingle in the finish, alongside a tart lemon trait performance.

From a 750 ml. caged cork green bottle with the year 2005 on the short cork, sampled at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
Made a good appearance, poured a cloudy, with a very small amount of sediment, pale golden orange with a frothy, fluffy white head that slowly settled into a thin sudsy lacing, good carbonation.
Had a nose of spicy herbs, a faint grassiness, touches of bubble gum and pale wheat malts.
A crisp, dry and carbonated smooth light bodied mouthfeel, good drinkability.
Pleasant tasting, bubble gum, spices and herbs, a light grassiness, grainy and wheat malty, the hops are very brisk and dry, sweet malty, yeasty and slightly hoppy finish.
Not a bad Saison ale, a nice one to start a friend on who isn’t familiar with Belgian ales, like I did tonight.

Blonde, cloudy. Hops, pepper and citrus in both aroma and flavor. Some tartness. Grapefruit and pepper aftertaste with a touch of cream. Just below medium bodied. Quite good!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 schuimkroaat (410) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUL 1, 2006
Beautiful golden colour with a fine yet thick haze and an abundant white froth. Fresh, rich aroma of grains, citrus, nutmeg... and a touch of ’farmyard’. Dry and tart with notes of wood and citrus; a spicy, finely bitter finish.

Interesting, mine was not transparent at all but an opaque, dark yellow. It had a very thick and large head and looks great in a Trappist glass. The aroma has wheat, coriander, and some barnyard weirdness. Flavor is much like a wheat beer, fairly sweet but enhanced by the strange farmhouse quality of this beer. There are also a dryness to this beer, that follows the initial sweetness on the tongue. Finishes just a little sour. Thick and heavy body.

Pours transparent light gold with a medium head. Aroma is skunky hops, averates saison funky yeast, and grain. Flavor is mild with some barnyard, slight hops, and a light grain. Thin body, watery palate.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (6707) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 18, 2006
Hazy blonde with floaties, and a thin white head. In aroma, a fielf of dandelion, urea, lactic acid, barnyard, funky and pleasant. In mouth, more of a lemony malt, with sage and bitter orange peels. Medium bodied. Mondial 2006.
