Bottle conditioned.
Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.

57F. Clean smelling -- fresh cut green honey dew, calendula, farm meadow in the morning. I call froth like this íbeer meringueí, most definitely. Goldenrod. Itís floral, fruity....carambola (starfruit) kiwi. Sticky, bitter....green banana. Saison grass, and dry finish. Quite wonderful and refreshing.

golden pour with a huge head. smells sweet and has a lot of carbonation. not much of a fruity taste in this one. very dry finish and taste. pretty damn good beer when you get down to it. definatly something unique to this area of the world.

This golden farmhouse ale pours with a very large white foamy head that gradually dissipates. The aroma is sweet, but the initial flavor is pleasantly bitter with a rather fruity finish. The highly carbonated texture makes this beer particularly enjoyable on a hot summer day, but it is good enough to be consumed in any weather.

750ml. ~50F serving temperature. Poured a pint with ~75% being tight foam. Phenolics & grain in the aroma. Shimmery gold color. Light-medium body with some carbonation sting to give the overall impression that the body is lighter than it is. Lots of yeast flavort - phenolics with a bit of bubble gum in the background. Hop bitterness quickly hits the back of the mouth and edges out the malt. After swallowing, leaves a bit of hop bitterness in the back and a sweet, fruity taste in the front of the mouth. As an aside, I just read Farmhouse Ales by Phil Markowski (good reading if you want to try and replicate these beers, along with Biere de Garde style brews). Dupontís Saison seems to be the classic modern version. I think Fantomeís brews edge out Dupontís Saison with their complexity of spices and acidic tang - just my two cents though. Iíll be culturing the Dupont yeast tonight and trying to culture Fantomeís in the near future!

Absolutely one of my recent most-favoritest, really good beers. Really summery, citrusy thirst quencher. Everything about it is top-shelf. Great big, long lasting head, intense beading, peach colored cloudy pale ale. Grassy taste, remarkably bright flavor, wonderful with food or even better instead of dessert. But then again, I might have been drunk.

750 ml green bottle. Pours a cloudy, pale golden yellow color with a huge, frothy soapy head. Lively carbonation.
Froth slowly recedes and leaves lots of chunky, sticky lace in itís wake.
Aroma is Yeasty, funky, soft cheese, a little sour note and a touch of fruity banana hiding way down deep.
Flavor is delicate, lemony and sweet and earthy with a long, lightly lemony bitter finish.

A flaxen streaming liquid under layers of stiff foam radiates scents of the earth. A gift basket of aroma: lavender salts, forest honey, radish greens and apple butter packed in handfuls of fresh mown hay. My nose is all wet with puffy froth. Exceptionally balanced flavors reminiscent of that perfect after dinner salad of bitter greens, toasted sunflower seeds, farmerís cheese and dried cranberries in a light citrus vinaigrette. When youíve finished, use whatís left of the head as a replacement for whipped cream on your fresh blackberries. I love it.

Bottle. Very nice Saison! Golden yellow in color. Very nice white head. Some lacing. Aroma is a little funky, smells a bit tart. Well carbonated. Slight sweetness and then a bitter tart flavor hits. Drying in the finish. I am really beginning to like this style of beer.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2005 750ml bottle. This is definitely one of the best ales Iíve tried. I love the complexity. So much here, itís hard to describle. Every sip makes me want another one. Only off is it is too carbonated.... I pour it rough so some of that bubbles off personally.

My 100th Belgium beer rating!
Hazy yellow color, big cloudy white head. Fine aroma of malts, hops. Very fruity nose. Very dry, fruity and round palate with lots of citrus fruits. "Soft sourness" which makes this easy to drink. Dry bitter finish with hints of sweetness but same time peppery.
