Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.

Finally time to rate one of the classics. To me this has always been the gold standard of the saison style, with the quintessential malty funk and textbook dry palate. Hazy orange, substantial white head, just the right amount of bitterness. Had this a few times during LV summer and of course had tried it on BE trip 2010. Now able to get it here in BE and fantastic again. Funny to see it in 12 oz bottles as you can only find 750ml in the US. Yes, this is the saison dupont to.

Purchased at the LCBO. Overflowed when I popped the cork. Skunky pilsner hops and a bit of vinegar in aroma. Taste of the same with a nice raisiny aftertaste. Nice.

Robe claire. En bouche : agrume avec une légère amertume. Une bière qui fait penser à une banche, dans sa douceur et ses saveurs.

Slightly hazy, yellow. Small, airy white head. Malty aroma with yeasty and horse. Flavour has lemon peel bitterness and earthy notes. Some sweetness but otherwise pretty dry with good barnyard finish.

This really surprised me since it smelled skunked from the bottle and had some catty, pissy stank from the glass. I am not a fan of green bottles. They look nice but that’s about it, no light protection. It’s a hazy pale yellow with a towering head. The smell is like I said, pissy and earthy but not really in a bad way. Notes of wheat and yeast drift upon the breeze, light basement and danky musk. The taste is much better than the smell, honey, tactful bubblegum, wheat, mild green apples, white wine, some barnyard funk. Fine mouthfeel, a wee bit o’ chewing to be done for bacca. Lovely lunch beer with fine cheeses. What isn’t though?

Head is small, whiteband frothy and diminishes almost completely. Body is hazy yellow. Aroma contains hay, cookie, lime, orange, earth, spruce, flowers, forest fruits, vanilla, grape. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and light bitter, followed by sweet and light acidic and finishing in dry bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Refreshing and more complex than expected. A nice surprise and one of the better saisons I tasted.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 Saison Dupont 750ml bottle served in a Tripel Karmeliet tulip A: Orange cloudy color. Huge white and foamy persistent finger white head. Really impressive. Reminds Duvel. Long retention and many lacings. Many remains in the bottom of the bottle S: Impressive smell. Perfect. Very yeasty and citrus hops too. Spicy. Cereal and bready as well. Again reminded me Duvel T: Excellent. Spicy. Belgian yeasts are a must here. The citrus grassy hop sting is just amazing... One of the best beers I’ve ever had M: Medium body. High carbonation. High drinkability O: Just perfect Farmhouse. Perfect beer [ BA Review @ 5/22/2011 ]
