petematte46 (121), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 14, 2009 95 degrees outside and I was excited for a refreshing Saison. Instead I got a delicious Belgian quad. If this beer were labeled a Belgian Quad, it would receive a 4.0. Considering it is labeled a Saison, I need to rate it as such. There was very little about this beer that carried Saison characteristics. The bottle was also sitting in my closet for a week resting, when I opened it I lost half the bottle, due to carbonation issues. Overall this was a fantastic beer. Exactly what I look for in a Belgian, not to sweet, great mouth feel, numbness on the tongue and pronounced Belgian yeast. Ungstrup (13383), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 8, 2009 Bottled. Unclear dark golden with an off-white head. The aroma sweet with notes of yeast, over ripe fruits, malt, and spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, vegetables, lightly tart and dry finish. More like a imperial Biere de Garde, not that exciting. steview (893), Los Angeles, California, USA May 29, 2009 the flavor is complex and well packaged - this is what stood out the most to me; dry and somewhat powdery with notes of apple and cheese also with pinches of spice as well as being sweeter and less peppery than some saisons; regardless of what I note I think overall this is great... It is smooth and entirely delicious! skortila (2735), Bunnik, Netherlands May 28, 2009 Bottled @ Olfestival 09 pre-tasting. Aroma has some cheese, apple and is somewhat cider-like. Hazy, red-brown coloured beer with an off-white-beige head. The taste is a bit sweet, malty with apple, cheese, yeast. Round taste and full bodied. Dry. Very good brew. swoopjones (1484), Buffalo, New York, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle shared with Blankboy & Hogtown Harry at Coles. Pours a lighter hazy brown amber. Much darker& maltier than most saisons that ive encountered. Aroma was malty, harry mentioned graham cracker & a whisp of smoke, dried fruits. Taste was malty sweet, spicy, slightly tart with dried fruit. Not really what I think of when thinking of saisons but a good beer either way caesar (2832), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 21, 2009 Bottled @ Olfestival 09 pre-tasting. hazy nutbrown color, short off-white head, lots of debris. Sweet and fruity sour aroma, apples. Dry fruity taste, almost cider. Bit yeasty. Very decent saison. jzzbassman (775), New Albany, Mississippi, USA May 14, 2009 330mL bottle. Clear ruby with a beautiful eggshell creamy head. Lovely aroma of fruit, funk, and some vague spice I can’t place. Sweeter than the average saison, with lots of fresh biscuit, overripe apple, and just a hint of funk. thewolf (4977), Kolding, Denmark May 14, 2009 Bottle. [thank you, after4ever]
Pours dark amber, micro-floaties, small creamy, off-white head. Great lacings. Aroma has notes of cheese, red apples, caramel, some funk; almost like a french cider. Great, super-dry mouthfeel. Flavour has a lot of maltiness, light cellar-notes, red apples. Caramel, oranges, light funk, some brett creeps up. Well, also a little chocolate.
