COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster’s Collection Special Reserve
Saison Imperiale was created as a bolder more flavorful interpretation of the style. This is a deep amber colored beer with active carbonation forming a large tan head. The beer is fermented with two yeasts - the traditional ale yeast Sacchoromyces along with a light touch of the lambic-like Brettanomyces yeast, yielding a mild earthiness sometimes referred to as "farmhouse character." On the palate the yeasts and hops initially combine for fruity and spicy notes, followed by a semi-sweet caramel medium bodied depth and richness from the malt. A truly unique saison experience.

Obfuscated rust color, stiff buff foam and mediocre lacing. Potent grape, bubblegum, and cherry licorice nose; a concentrated candy smell. Some peach and vanilla afternotes. Flavors of Tootsie Roll, plum and coughdrop… some crabapple acidity… a shortlived phenolic and somewhat acrid aftertaste. Thick creamy mouthfeel more befitting an oatmeal stout; low carbonation. Completely not what I expected from saison in any incarnation. Sweet, dimensionless and boring.

Had years ago while at BW. Kind of your classic all around saison. Great flavors, nothing over the top.

Bottle from old backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy amber/copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have funk, floral notes, hay, some fruity character, pale bready malts, interesting.

Bottle sampled at Paul’s housewarming tasting 2013. Pours a clear amber body with thin white lacing. Aroma is grain, yeast, caramel malts and light dust. Mouthfeel is medium to full with notes of rich caramel malt, yeast, wheat, light funk, musk and lots of grain.

A crazy dark saison. Heavily oxidized to me, but not my companion. Hot and spicy all over and very dry in the mouth. Not a fan.

750ml bottle shared at Paul’s. Poured a syrupy honey orange body with a foamy off white head. Aroma was medicinal, old band aids, pepper, yeast and spice. Full big body with stronger carbonation and a lingering finish. Flavor was dry, cardboard, rather medicinal, yeast, old bread, spice. Was hoping for a light refreshing saison after an afternoon of big beers, this was not that.

Bomber: mahogany tone with a moderate, creamy head. Fair lacing. Caramel and fig on the nose. Frothy on the tongue. Malty with a mild toasty flavor. Very mild as farmhouse ales go. Easy drinker & very pleasant. ~m --RaucusBacchus

At Epic Beer Fest 2013. Clear bronze under a foamy beige head. Aroma is wonderful with earthy spiciness and a sweet tangerine fruitiness along with typical yet delightful saison aromas. Flavor is crisp yet strong with earthy tones of barn grains, yeasty spiciness, hay, toffee, and strong boozy esters in that uniquely Belgian way.
