Karl Friedrich, or just Karl to his friends, is a simple pale lager with historical taste, boasting the delicious flavour of hops and the brew master’s pure spirit. It was brewed in honour of Karl Friedrich Rehbinder, the founder of Estonian beer culture and of Saku Brewery. Karl is a real beer, exactly as genuine Estonian beer used to be for centuries before modern times. There is no innovative crystal filtration or luxurious aroma bouquet, no posh hop cultivars or trendy freshness. This beer only includes barley malt, water, hops, yeast and the experience gathered by Saku brew masters over centuries. Traditional raw materials and brewing technologies create a beer that combines the bitterness of hops and the sweet hint of barley malt. A genuine and pure taste to be enjoyed by those who appreciate the charm of simplicity.

Petosta. Tämä on Sandells-Kopio. Ei kyllä paljonkaan säväyttänyt. Keskiverto lager. Pöh.

Oh well. Pours golden-yellow with medium white head. Head disappears immediately. In aroma - well there’s nothing to say - dishwashing cloth smell with nothing else. Tastes as smells - nothing to say - mainstream eurolager. Not sure it’s even deserves name beer.

Bottle. Pours clear golden in color with a foamy whitish head. Grainy notes, some dry hay, cardboard and hints of sweet maltyness in aroma. Sweet malty taste with hints of grains and faint bitterness.

Bottled. Pale golden, thin white head. Sweetish grainy aroma. Flavor has the same sweet graininess, malt, mild bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Had this with food. Thin. Easy, better than the other lagers Saku have made, the few I have tried at least. Ok with food.

Pint, can, kindly shared by djoeye. Clear straw-golden body. Medium white head, most of it remaining. Grainy nose. Buttery sweet taste of fruits mingled with grainy malts. Bland fruity endnotes. Soft carbonated. It’s drinkable but has got little to offer, rather tasteless, mainstream lager (Tromsø 18.03.2014).

Looks; 2finger head, clear golden body, some curtains inside mug. Aroma; fruity caramel malts. Taste; bread, caramel malts, grains. Normal on palate. Finish; bread again. Not so much of anything. Maybe the bottle is better? Pint can 5%, b@Rimi Pärnu EE, enjoyed@RateMeet@Rune’s 18mar2014.

50cl can. 33 cl can. This beer varies from batch to batch - I actually had it in Finland prior to Estonia. Same as Sandels - nothing special. Lager as is. Go for Originaal if you can.

Bottlle. Light golden, small to average and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate, malty - lightly grainy and sweetish aroma, light corn and cardbord. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, light corn, faint metal. Finish is short to average, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, light corn and light sharp metal, faint hoppyness. "... brewed in honour of Karl Friedrich Rehbinder...". Really. Brewed in honour? Can the family/relatives sue Carlsberg?
